CMTT’s Artists to Watch in 2021

2020 was a strange year. A year filled with uncertainty, a very combative presidential election and the city of Nashville seemed to take the hardest hits of the year. A tornado, COVID lockdowns, and an explosion in the middle of downtown has made us all very excited to turn the page on what we can only hope is a year of hope, rebuilding, and love. As we start to turn that page we want to look ahead at what country music is going to throw at us in 2021 and things are looking up! 2021 sounds beautifully creative, positive, and full of fun. Here are CMTT’s picks for Artists to watch in 2021.

Fans were first introduced to Kameron Marlowe as a contestant on season 15 of The Voice but we really started paying attention when he turned his own personal heartbreak into his debut single, “Giving You Up.” His gritty voice and creative songwriting are what keeps us listening. Brittney Spencer

When Maren Morris calls out the name Brittney Spencer during her speech at the 2020 CMA Awards you pay attention. Brittney is getting BIG love from Nashville names like Maren, Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, and many others. She is a songwriter-singer with a free spirit and a love for molding life, truth, and wild imagination into songs. Her love for storytelling landed her in Nashville in 2013 with dreams of singing and writing country music. Traditional country music fans probably already recognize this name. Tyler Booth is a Kentucky native who moved to Nashville at the invitation of songwriter and producer Phil O’Donnell. He has already collaborated with big names in country music,  duetting with Brooks & Dunn on their Reboot album. We expect to see a lot of Tyler in 2021. Ashland Craft

Emerging as one of the most exciting new voices in the genre, Ashland Craft is introducing her own brand of edgy Country music. As the first release on Big Loud Records, her Soul-infused vocal roars off the tracks with “Trainwreck.” Craft is set to drop a powerful batch of fresh music, after a Top 10 stint on NBC’s The Voice and opening tour slots for major artists like Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and more. Since relocating to Nashville last year, she has won fans with her no B.S. stamp on independent releases like Country girl anthem “Good Ol’ Girls,” the cleverly-constructed ode to loneliness “Your Place or Mine,” and the clear-eyed ballad “They Always Do.”

Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson kicked off 2020 by making her Grand Ole Opry debut—a dream come true for the Baskin, Louisiana native. Hailing from the small farming community, the Country newcomer has as much grit in her as she does soul. She moved to Nashville in a bumper-pull camper trailer to pursue a career in music and has been carving her own unique place in the country music landscape ever since. From landing multiple TV placements in Paramount Network’s hit series Yellowstone to having co-writer credits on songs recorded by fellow country artists including Luke Combs, the songstress’ talents continue to influence more than just her own artistry. Taking her talents out into the world, Lainey continuously logs an impressive number of miles on the road, performing for sold-out crowds throughout the US, UK, and Germany with notable names like Justin Moore, Tyler Farr, Ashley McBryde, Randy Houser, Josh Turner, Morgan Wallen, and more. Songs to listen to: “WWDD”, “Rolling Stone”, “Sunday Best”, and “Small Town, Girl

Country artist Priscilla Block draws listeners in with her unfiltered, relatable songwriting and catchy melodies. With an honest and upfront approach, Priscilla promotes self-love, empowerment, and acceptance through her own blend of country-pop and southern rock, dubbed the Block Party sound. Rooted in country, rock & roll, southern storytelling, and heartland hooks, Everette is glued together by two Kentucky natives who write their own songs, play their own instruments, and proudly blur the boundaries between themselves and their audience. For the boys, music is all about community. It’s about connection. That’s why the duo’s motto — “We are Everette” — isn’t just a statement about the musical bond shared by bandmates Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia. It’s a reference to the communal bonds they share with their fans, too. Songs to listen to: “Dang the Whiskey” “Way Back” “Break it to Me” and “Love Me Like I Am.”

As the son of John Michael Montgomery and nephew of Eddie Montgomery, of Montgomery Gentry, Walker lives up to that heritage, and then some. His self-penned song “Simple Town,” which was the title track of his debut EP, has already reached more than 3.6 million streams on Spotify. The success garnered him a deal with Play It Again Music. Songs to listen to: “Like My Daddy Done It” and “Saving For A Rainy Night.”
