CMTT’s Top 10 Female Country Artists of 2019

Being the Newbie at CMTT, I wanted to make my first feature about what I am most passionate about and that is FEMALES IN COUNTRY MUSIC. This is such a hot topic in the industry today and I thought I’d shed my insight on the topic.

The phrase “Women Don’t Want to Hear Women” that I’ve heard countless times from Industry Execs is a bold face lie. There are so many talented females in the industry today and many more on their way up the ranks. The support these females have for one another is a “country music sisterhood” of sorts you might say and with the help of outlets like CMT and Leslie Fram spearheading “CMT’s Next Women of Country” I believe we are getting closer and closer to changing people’s minds and attitudes towards this issue.

When asked to write a feature on my top picks for 2019 I immediately said YES and then realized I could only pick 10! After careful thought and debate, I came up with these 10 talented females as my top picks for 2019.

Jillian Jacqueline

What a 2018 this gal had. She started the year off touring with Jordan Davis on “The White Wine and Whiskey Tour”. Immediately following that she jumped on tour with Brett Eldredge and Devin Dawson on “The Long Way Tour” and she finished the year off with Kip Moore on his Acoustic Tour. The thing I love most about Jillian is she is unapologetically herself. There is no sugar coating who she really is. Her raw and edgy lyrics mirror that and she has a sound like no other in the music industry. Big Things to come….

Abby Anderson

The Country Music Energizer Bunny as I like to call her. This girl not only has the stage presence of a seasoned veteran she has the vocals to back it up. She’s like Tina Turner meets Willie Nelson meets Elvis Presley (all happen to be her musical influences when she was growing up). While 2018 was a huge year for Abby with the drop of debut single and EP, her  Grand Ole Opry debut and touring with Brett Eldredge just to name a few things; I believe 2019 is going to be even bigger yet. Abby has been teasing tons of new music on her social media pages and is even teaming up with fellow rising star Jimmie Allen on a cover song yet to be announced.

Runaway June

These three have THE MOST amazing Harmonies in Country Music. Jennifer, Naomi and Hannah have been around for a couple of years now but are finally getting the recognition they deserved since Day 1. These 3 talented ladies are the perfect blend and there is no denying they are country to the core. (Fun Fact: Jen is John Wayne’s granddaughter) Their current single “Buy My Own Drinks” is sassy, fun, and very relatable to anyone who’s gone through a breakup. 2019 is going to be huge for these ladies. They are touring with the Top Female in Country Music right now, Carrie Underwood. They will be joined by Maddie & Tae on The Cry Pretty 360 Tour all year and hopefully a full length album if will be released if we are lucky.

Tenille Townes

She may come off as very reserved and shy but man can Tenille Townes play that guitar and put on a show. I saw Tenille this past year for the first time on “The Breakers Tour” and was blown away by the way she owned the stage… and it wasn’t just those sparkly pants she had on. Her current single “Somebody’s Daughter” is by far the epitome of Country Music Songwriting. It is a story and that’s what Tenille does in all of her songs she tells a story. 2019 is already looking even brighter for Tenille as she heads out on tour with Dierks Bentley’s “Burning Man Tour” this month.

Rachel Wammack

Towards the end of 2018 I heard this song called “Damage” on Sirius XM and immediately had to know who sang it. The voice was just so pure and soulful and the lyrics were relatable since I was also a bartender. I looked it up, and found that the artist’s name was Rachel Wammack. Not only did Rachel release the song “Damage” followed by an EP, she got to join Brett Young and Tyler Rich on Tour. Toward the end of 2019 CMT Announced their class of 2019 “Next Women of Country” and Rachel’s name landed on that list. I am so excited to hear more from her in 2019. I have a feeling her star is going to keep on shinning’

Lacy Cavalier

Having your single played on mainstream country radio and being an unsigned artist is an extreme rarity in today’s world. But that was just one of the many challenges Lacey Cavalier has overcome. Lacey’s current single “Cheating on U” has been featured on The Bobby Bone’s Show and played nationwide on many I Heart Radio Stations. Lacey was also recently added to the Morgan Wallen Tour lineup this winter. We can’t wait for everyone to see her out on the road.

Kalie Shorr

While Kalie Shorr is no stranger to the industry, the CMT Next Women of Country 2018 alum is going to have a huge 2019. Touring last year with Sara Evans and Raelynn helped skyrocket her popularity and get her music out on Sirius XM even more. Her song “Fight Like A Girl” also helped land her own tour “The Road To The CMA Awards” as well as airplay on Sirius XM The Highway. We cannot wait to hear a full album that is currently in the works and to see more of Kalie in 2019.

Brooke Eden

While 2018 was a relatively quiet year for country soul and amazing vocalist Brooke Eden. 2019 y’all better watch out. Brooke Eden is the most underrated female artist in the industry. She is currently working on a full length album and she’s performed several of her new songs as of recent. All I can say is WOW. The emotion she expressed through her voice is so real and so soulful. Brooke has this aura about her, every time she hits the stage its just magical. Her live performances are just so fun and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her in 2018 at CMA Fest and getting a sneak peak of the new music. Put this one on that radar because 2019 is going to be BIG for Brooke Eden.

Carly Pearce

2018 was definitely the year of Carly Pearce in Country Music. So many awards, tours and accolades I could go on for forever. The “Closer To You” Songstress starts back on tour very soon with a co-headline tour with Russell Dickerson. “The Way Back Tour” is not the only thing Carly is working on already in 2019. She’s been busy recording “CP 2” in the studio as well. Oh and unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you know she’s very happily engaged to fellow country music artist Michael Ray. So very proud of Carly and all she’s accomplished and what’s yet to come for her.

Kelsea Ballerini

Is there anything Kelsea Ballerini can’t do? She hosted, she won awards (many of them), she has had four #1 songs at Country radio, she headlined her own tour, she toured with Keith Urban and she got married…just to name a few things. This talented gals career has literally skyrocketed and there’s no stopping her now. 2019 looks even more promising as the pop country power singer kicks it off touring with Kelly Clarkson on the Meaning of Life Tour. In May Kelsea hits the road for her “Miss Me More” Tour with Brett Young and Brandon Ratcliff. Kelsea has also been teasing new songs on social media and we hope to hear a release date “KB 3” before the end of the year.
