Russell Dickerson Performs Surprise Zoom Wedding

Russell Dickerson

Today, in a special #WithYouTODAY on NBC’s “The Today Show” (here), multi-platinum recording artist, Russell Dickerson, surprised Melanie, a bride-to-be whose wedding plans were put on hold by the national lockdown, with a live Zoom performance of her choice first dance song— Dickerson’s “Yours,” dubbed in preceding years as the “wedding song of the year.” The first dance immediately followed an impromptu marriage officiation by Hoda Kotb, arranged by the groom, John, and a friend of the bride.

The couple’s pastor initially popped up on the Zoom to surprise John and Melanie, then tossed it over to an ordained Hoda, who popped up on screen. After the intimate “I do’s,” Hoda announced,

“It’s not really a wedding without a first dance and I know one of the songs that you love, and I love this song too, is a song called YOURS by a guy named Russell Dickerson.

“Let’s have a little first dance, why don’t we?” Dickerson said before playing the song.

“The Today Show’s” #WithYouTODAY series focuses on celebrating people who are managing the crisis around the country in different ways and bringing a bit of joy to their days.
