Toby Keith Debuts “That’s Country Bro” Lyric Video

Toby Keith

As country music goes, it might be the mother of all name-checks. Toby Keith‘s new single “That’s Country Bro” released wide on Friday, May 3, and the lyric video is out now.

Even if you don’t know all the names, you’ll smile ear-to-ear. And you’ll marvel at the sly and subtle crafting, smothered in pure fun. Keith co-wrote the song with Bobby Pinson.

Among the names dropped with aplomb: Jimmie Rodgers, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Bob Wills, Kitty Wells, Jimmy Dean, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner, Roger Miller, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Charley Pride, Buck Owens, George Jones, Emmylou Harris, Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Earl Thomas Conley, John Wayne, Andy Griffith, Alabama, George Strait and Randy Travis.

Of course, Keith has direct connections to many of those he references. Whether it was filling in for an ailing Merle Haggard at his final show, paying tribute to Glen Campbell for the Academy of Country Music, or multiple connections to Willie Nelson (“Beer For My Horses,” “Weed With Willie,” “Wacky Tobaccy”). And Marshal Dillon and Roy Rogers have already gotten the name-drop treatment in Keith’s first smash single “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.”

Fortunately, the lyric video lives up to the song. Check it out here … and follow along: https://youtu.be/BXvjEFiN5TI

The Toby Keith That’s Country Bro! Tour opens May 26 at the Tree Town Music Festival in Forest City, Iowa. Toby Keith and Friends Sweet 16 Golf Classic returns to Norman, OK’s Riverwind Casino and Belmar Golf Club May 31-June 2, benefiting the OK Kids Korral in its work supporting sick children and their families.
