Cody Johnson’s “Husbands and Wives” Cover Is Country at It’s Purest

Cody Johnson says Roger Miller’s original version of “Husbands and Wives” inspired the recording on his new Ain’t Nothin’ to It album, but this acoustic cover is more reminiscent of the version Brooks & Dunn released many years later.

In this Taste of Country RISERS video, Johnson — a featured artist on the upcoming Brooks & Dunn Reboot album — delivers a stunning vocal performance of a waltz with an urgent message. The “On My Way to You” singer says an argument with his wife started him thinking about this classic truth-about-love song. It quickly slid into his live set, so when it was time for him to cut a performance video, he was able to do it in a single take.
