New & Noteworthy: Keith Walker

Singer/songwriter Keith Walker was raised in a picturesque beach town at the end of the runway near Los Angeles, but the sounds of Haggard, Yoakum, Gary Allan and Garth Brooks had always resonated through the walls of his home.

But it wasn’t until tragedy hit his family he realized his calling in life. Keith watched as his brother coped with the loss of his high school sweetheart after a horrific accident by singing along to the song “Don’t Take The Girl” by Tim McGraw.

“He hit his knees and sang along almost as if he was praying out loud. For the first time in my life it wasn’t just words in a song. It was real life and I knew it was what I had to do with mine.”

From that point on, his radio was always dialed into the country station. With every song he heard, he knew more and more that this was what he was supposed to do with his life.

Right after high school, Keith pursued an opera scholarship by day and played country music in local clubs at night. Personal tragedy struck again, motivating Keith to make the leap of faith to take his career to the next level. Only he and his guitar survived a roll over crash in his pickup truck on a California freeway. That was the moment he realized that Nashville was waiting for him.

“It was my get busy living or get busy dying moment.”

Keith attended Middle Tennessee State University just outside of Nashville while performing in the honky-tonks on Broadway in Nashville at night. He began meeting and writing with some of Nashville’s best songwriters, developing a sound that he could call his own.

“When I sit down to write a song, I always do my best to make it as real and true to myself as possible. That’s the only way to connect with country music fans.”

His last radio single “Me Too” landed in the top 30 on the MusicRow Chart and top 40 on Billboard Indicator.

In 2016 & 2017, he took home the Nashville Industry Music Award (NIMA) for Best Country Male Solo Artist, which led to opportunities to play shows with Kenny Chesney, Canaan Smith, Jana Kramer, and Clint Black.

His new single “That Song” invokes the pain of a lost love and how the memory of a song can cut deep.
