“If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd” Debuts at Nashville Film Festival Tonight

If I Leave Here Tomorrow, the definitive, authorized documentary on the iconic southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, makes its Nashville debut at the Nashville Film Festival, this Friday, May 11 at 6 p.m. CT at Regal Hollywood 27 theatres. An additional showing is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available at

The film’s director, acclaimed music documentarian Stephen Kijak (“Stones in Exile,” “Scott Walker – 30 Century Man,” “Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of,” Sundance Award winner “We Are X”) will introduce the film at Friday’s premiere and welcome special guests, including the band’s original drummer Artimus Pyle.

Narrated primarily by founding and current Lynyrd Skynyrd member Gary Rossington, If I Leave Here Tomorrow celebrates the life and times of bandleader Ronnie Van Zant, featuring rare interviews and never-before-seen archival footage. Rossington recalls the band’s early days in the swamps of the Deep South and the evolution of their signature, hard-rocking boogie-woogie sound that came to define an era.

His recollections, from the beginning to the very end, mingle with the tales of drummer  Pyle and “Sweet Home Alabama” co-writer Ed King, interviews with the late drummer Bob Burns and “Honkette” JoJo Billingsley, producer Al Kooper, and recently discovered interviews with the late founding members Allen “Freebird” Collins and Leon “Mad Hatter” Wilkeson.

If I Leave Here Tomorrow made its world premiere earlier this year at SXSW to rave reviews; and in April, the film won the Music Movies Competition at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

If I Leave Here Tomorrow is presented by CMT and is a production of Passion Pictures Films. The film is directed by Stephen Kijak, and produced by Passion’s John Battsek and Diane Becker. Executive producers are Brian Philips, Lewis Bogach, John Miller-Monzon and Andrew Ruhemann.
