Dolly Parton Announces $1000 Per Month Gift to Families Who Lost It All in Fires

Dolly Parton announced a new effort by The Dollywood Company and The Dollywood Foundation to establish a fund to assist the victims of the Great Smoky Mountain wildfires in Tennessee. The new My People Fund will provide $1000 each month to Sevier County families who lost their homes.

“I’ve always believed charity begins at home and my home is some place special,” Parton explained. “That’s why I’ve asked my Dollywood Companies—including the Dollywood theme park, and DreamMore Resort; my dinner theater attractions including Dixie Stampede and Lumberjack Adventure; and my Dollywood Foundation—to help me establish the My People Fund.

“We want to provide a hand up to those families who have lost everything in the fires. I know it has been a trying time for my people and this assistance will help get them back on their feet.”

More information on the program will be released on Friday, December 2nd.

Fires have been raging across the Smokey Mountains for days, destroying over 400 structures, thousands of acres and killing at least 7 people. The town of Gatlinburg and surrounding cities will be cleaning-up for years to come.

  1. This is a disgrace for all the money dolly has made off people and for her to donate a thousand dollars a month, , I give more than that and I’m poor, , I hope people boycotts all her music and her theme park. Dolly this is one time you should have kept your mouth shut, , shame shame on you

    • Pat, read the article! She’s donating $1000 per month PER family who lost their homes in the fires. So far, they assess at least 400 structures were burned. We can assume that at least half of those were homes. That’s at least 200,000 PER MONTH until they get back on their feet…which could be years! I’d say that’s pretty damn generous. I’m astounded that you would find something “NOT GOOD ENOUGHT” when someone reaches out to help. Dolly grew up poor. She knows what it’s like. She’s given millions of dollars to the less fortunate and children. Quit pissing and moaning and be grateful there are people out there like Dolly who give a rip at all. No one HAS to do anything. She is choosing to.
