Toby Keith Tops Forbes Money Maker List

The top country musician on Forbes’ new all-genre list of moneymakers isn’t Taylor Swift or Kenny Chesney. It’s Toby Keith. He’s at number 11 with $50 million in the 12 months because of earnings from his music, an endorsement deal with Ford, his restaurant chain called I Love This Bar and Grill and his mezcal liquor line.

Taylor Swift is the second-highest country moneymaker on the new Forbes list. She comes in at 13th. Her $45 million earnings are all based on music and touring.

Brad Paisley is ranked 15th. His $40 million comes from music sales, touring and sponsorships, including one with Chevrolet.

Other country moneymakers on the list are Tim McGraw with $35 million, Rascal Flatts with $34 million and Kenny Chesney with $30 million. U2 tops the list with earnings of $195 million. Forbes says the tour they’re wrapping up is the “most lucrative tour in the history of music.”

CMA Fest Beats Out U2 in the Battle for the Stadiums

It’s CMA Music Festival versus U2 and U2 does not come out on top. Usually, it’s “the bigger the arena the better” for U2. But, they’ll have to play a smaller venue for their first appearance in Nashville in almost 30 years. Instead of the larger LP Field, they’ll play in Vanderbilt Stadium next summer.

The Tennessean reports that the Tennessee Titans football team, who play in and operate LP Field, were approached by promoters for U2 but turned them down. Here’s why: LP Field has an agreement with the CMA MusicFest, which will be held June 9-12, that says no other concerts can be held within 30 to 45 days of the festival unless the Country Music Association agrees. An exec with the Titans says the team didn’t even bother to ask the CMA. U2′s Nashville concert is July 2.

Big Kenny and Bono

Apparently Bono and Big Kenny run in similar circles.  At U2′s concert this past weekend, a mutual friend introduced the two.
