When Garth Brooks told his wife, Trisha Yearwood, that he was asked to join the Country Music Hall of Fame, she says he was in tears.

Yearwood tells the Associated Press Garth received a secret phone call from the head of the Country Music Association a couple weeks ago and couldn’t tell anyone but immediate family until Tuesday’s announcement. Yearwood knows how much it means to be a member of the Hall of Fame — first as an artist herself and also because she used to be a tour guide at the Hall. Yearwood says she would take people through and show them all the plaques. She says it’s cool to see it all come full circle.

Brooks joins veteran era singer Connie Smith and Hargus “Pig” Robbins as this year’s inductees.

Music superstar and best-selling cookbook author Trisha Yearwood brings her family-inspired recipes and food traditions to Food Network this spring, with the premiere of the new daytime series Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Saturday, April 14th at 10:30am ET/PT.

The series invites viewers into the kitchen with Trisha for her favorite meals, nostalgic stories and visits from family and friends. Themed shows range from preparing traditional dishes from her childhood to planning a baby shower and a family reunion barbecue to offering tips on lightening up standard Southern recipes. Shot in Nashville, the six-episode series features Trisha’s unique how-to tips and techniques for down-home dishes like Daddy’s Barbecued Chicken, Uncle Wilson’s Famous Baked Onions, Chick-less Pot Pie and Sweet and Saltines.

“Trisha’s best known as a music legend, but her talents don’t stop there. She’s a passionate and talented cook, whose down-to-earth style, winning recipes, and southern hospitality will charm and inspire viewers,” said Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President Programming, Food Network.

“For me, cooking is very connected to my family and friends,” said Yearwood. “Every recipe on the show carries wonderful memories with my loved ones and I can’t wait to share my meals, stories and family photos with Food Network viewers.”

Trisha Yearwood, who has won three Grammy Awards®, two Academy of Country Music Awards, three Country Music Association honors and had 19 top-ten singles, released her first best-selling cookbook “Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen” (Clarkson Potter) in 2008. Her second book “Cooking for Family and Friends (Clarkson Potter) followed in 2010. Both books reached the #1 position on the New York Times best-seller list in the Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous category.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trisha Yearwood will soon be gracing your television screen with her own show on The Food Network. Trisha’s six-episode series will show her sharing food, recipes, and tricks with family and friends.

“Fans know Trisha best as a music powerhouse, and through her new Food Network show audiences will learn first-hand what her friends and family already know — that Trisha is a talented, passionate rock-star cook too,” Food Network GM and senior vp programming and production Bob Tuschman said. “We look forward to sharing this side of Trisha with viewers, showcasing an intimate, entertaining look at her personal recipes, family traditions and warm Southern hospitality.”

Trisha will most likely share recipes from the two cookbooks she penned, Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen and Cooking for Family and Friends.

Trisha Yearwood‘s mother and cooking mentor, Gwen Yearwood lost her battle with cancer this past weekend. The 73 year old was co-author with her daughter of Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes From My Family to Yours and Home Cooking With Trisha Yearwood: Stories and Recipes to Share with Family and Friends.

Another honor for Taylor Swift to add to her already massive collection.   Taylor will be  getting the Nashville Symphony’s Harmony Award. The president of the symphony says Swift “embodies the all-encompassing spirit” that makes Nashville “such a uniquely special place.”

Swift will get her award December 10. Others who have been honored in the past include LeAnn Rimes, Lyle Lovett, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Vince Gill, Wynonna and Naomi Judd, Chet Atkins, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Marty Stuart.

Some of the top names in country music are in the Georgia Hall of Fame including Alan Jackson, Chet Atkins, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood and many others. But it’ll be tough for anyone to visit unless it’s saved. The Telegraph of Macon reports the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon is shutting down June 12th. Money from the state of Georgia is ending and the hall’s board of directors decided against asking for money from the public to keep it open. Memorabilia from the hall will be moved to the University of Georgia but it won’t be on display.
