Mitt Romney Is A Country Music Fan

Mitt Romney

From time to time certain artists use their platform for political reasons.  For some it turns our great and for others *cough* Dixie Chicks *cough* not so good.  Very rarely do we hear from the political parties themselves their interest in the music they love.

Looks to me like one President hopeful is quite the country music fan.  Mitt Romney took to his Twitter account with a link to his Spotify playlist that included tracks like Carrie Underwood’s “All-American Girl,” Toby Keith’s “As Good As I Once Was,” and Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You.”

He said on Twitter that spending a lot of time on the road campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination means you have to carry good music. Other favorites of his include Willie Nelson’s “Over The Rainbow,” Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “It’s Your Love,” Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” and Clint Black’s cover of the Eagles’ “Desperado.”

President Barack Obama released his own Spotify playlist last month. He likes tunes by Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band, Montgomery Gentry and two songs each from Sugarland and Darius Rucker.

With the October release of third album “Speak Now,” which topped sales of 1 million units in its first week, the biggest debut ever for a studio album by a country artist. Taylow was named Nielsen SoundScan’s top-selling artist of 2010 based on her total album sales of 4.4 million. Also a top concert draw, Swift racked up U.S. tour grosses of $30.8 million, netting her $10.4 million.

Taylor comes behind big-wigs such as Lady GaGa who topped the list with $30,556,342. Also in the top 10 are Bon Jovi, The Eagles, Dave Matthews, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, and The Black Eyed Peas.

Other country folks who made the top 40 list include Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, Sugarland, and George Strait. You can see the full list here.

Good News for Concert Goers in 2011 – Concert Prices Expected To Drop

Concert tickets could be a little more affordable next year. Some promoters are saying rather than charge high prices when tickets first go on sale, and then offer discounts later, they’ll offer cheaper tickets from the start.

Some promoters also say they’ll try to sell more T-shirts and other merchandise to make up for lost revenue. This year was a tough one for some tours. Dozens of shows were canceled — for example, Lilith Fair and the Eagles with the Dixie Chicks.

Once again, five of the top-20 concert tours rated by Pollstar are country or country cross-over acts. Of them, The Eagles are ranked highest, at third. That’s the same place they were last week. The ranking is based on average box office gross per city and average ticket price. Next is Toby Keith. He’s in 10th which is where he was last week. Brad Paisley is in 12th. He was at 11th last week. Rascal Flatts are in 13th. And, Carrie Underwood finds herself in 19th place on Pollstar’s list of top concert tours.

Rascal Flatts are celebrating their 10th anniversary by staying in first place on Billboard’s country songs chart. “Why Wait” was in first last week, too. Reba McEntire can celebrate the success of “Turn on the Radio.” It’s moved from fourth place last week to second now. And, “My Kinda Party” from Jason Aldean has moved from fifth to third on Billboard’s country songs chart. Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” stays in first place on Billboard’s country albums chart. Rascal Flatts’ album, “Nothing Like This,” inches up from third to second. And, Jason Aldean is doing some inching, too. The album, “My Kinda Party” goes from fourth to third.

“Cradle Rock” (http://www.cradlerockstore.com), has announced that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” greatest hits from Johnny Cash and chart topping singles from Kenny Chesney would be the first three albums in a lullaby series, hitting stores October 26th.

Soothing sounds from instruments such as the vibraphone, glockenspiel and mellotron are used to create lullabies based on famous, iconic artists and albums in the country, rock and pop genres.

Additional Cradle Rock albums in development include U2’s “The Joshua Sleep Tree,” Black Eyed Peas’ “Sleep-pea Hits” as well as lullaby albums inspired by Nickelback, Carrie Underwood and The Eagles to name a few.
