Tammy Wynette’s daughter says the name change on her mother’s tomb isn’t what she thought it would be, and she’s not happy.
According to CMT.com the name has been changed to Virginia. W. Richardson. When she died in 1998, Wynette was married to producer and songwriter George Richey, whose last name was originally Richardson. Daughter Georgette Jones-Lennon says Wynette’s stepdaughter told her the name had to be changed temporarily to Wynette’s maiden name for legal reasons. Jones-Lennon says she expected the change would be to Virginia Wynette Pugh. She says she and her two sisters are “very upset.” Stepdaughter Deirdre Richardson-Hale isn’t saying why the name change was necessary. Jones-Lennon says Wynette’s children also are fighting with Richey’s last wife over the rights to Wynette’s music, name and likeness.
