Prior to last night (February 20th), I had been to one other concert at Wild Bill’s in Atlanta, the Phil Vassar concert back in November 2009. An up and coming artist by the name of Jason Jones opened for him, and both of them were outstanding! The concert seating arrangement at Wild Bill’s is that of a dance hall with tables lining the outer rims of the dance floor. For the Phil Vassar concert, the group I went with had seats at one of the tables on the right side of the stage. While those seats were higher priced, they were by no means the best location… the best location is that which my sister and I occupied for the Eric Church concert. Where is the best location to be for this particular venue you ask? Dangling our arms on the very front of the stage of course!
The night began with Rick Monroe as the emcee for the night. He combined a little bit of drinking, a little bit of humor, and a little bit of solo guitar playing and singing in order to keep the crowd entertained in between sets.
First up was CMTT’s very own Jagermeister tour correspondent, Sean Patrick McGraw! He opened with a crowd igniter called “Put Your Cowboy On” and let me tell you, that we did! His set was such an energizer that it became a blur of screams and dancing. However, another notable song worth checking out is “Cow Tippin”. I come from a father who did this in the farms of Ohio so it hit that country gene spot on!
Second up was the official opener for the Jagermeister tour, Josh Thompson. You may recognize his name, as his first single “Beer on the Table” has taken country music by storm! He opened the set with “Blame it on Waylon” which is his most recent single out and the crowd went nuts! Much like Sean Patrick McGraw, the rest of the set was a blur of dancing and the best effort at losing my voice, but I can tell you that he closed with “Beer on the Table”. It was standing room only along the stage, and if you needed a drink or to use the restroom, you had better not left while the acts were on stage or you weren’t getting back.
After a slight intermission of country music and people watching, Rick Monroe (the emcee) made his way back on stage to get us re-fired up (not that we needed it). We learned two things: 1) This was the biggest crowd in the history of Wild Bill’s with over 4,000 people in the building and 2) Oxygen makes booze work better so we had better keep singing! To that, the crowd went nuts and it was time for the Jagermeister headliner, ERIC CHURCH, to take the stage!!!
Unfortunately, I cannot recall what Mr. Church opened with but it was nothing short of AMAZING. If you ever wonder what separates the average Joe entertainer from a STAR entertainer, Eric Church EXUDES it… two words: ENERGY and PASSION. You can tell how incredibly passionate he is about his music and the lyrics. To date, the best country concert I’ve had the privilege of attending was Kenny Chesney, BUT Eric Church gives him a run for his money. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check him out, do it… NOW! From his first single “How ‘Bout You” to his most recent smash hit “Hell on the Heart”, you will have a hard time disliking ANY of his songs. In fact, you might just have them all in your head on repeat for weeks on end (much like myself).
All in all, the Jagermeister tour concert was one of the greatest nights of music one could possibly partake in. I, for one, will never forget it! Do yourself a favor, check out the Jagermeiser tour schedule and buy a ticket. It will be the best money you will spend all year!
