O’Shea Inks Deal With Sony Music Australia

Nashville based, Australian born husband and wife country duo O’Shea have signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia, with their debut album Mr. and Mrs. being released in Australia on Friday, September 30, 2011.

Mark and Jay O’Shea have achieved significant success on their own, but since marrying and moving to Nashville in 2007, they have built a loyal fan base in both Australia and the U.S. Their introduction to the American public was on CMT’s popular television series, “Can You Duet,” which carried them into the top five. They have since toured with some of country music’s biggest acts including Darius Rucker, Sara Evans and Phil Vassar, to name a few.

The record deal and album release caps off a landmark year for the couple who are beaming from the recent birth of their daughter Finley Avalon O’Shea and are enjoying the ongoing success of their TV show “O’Shea U.S.A.” which airs weekly on CMC in Australia.

“We’re so excited to be working with the guys at Sony. When you’re young, you dream about one day signing to a label like this!” says Jay. Mark adds, “This album has been a long time comin’…but now being able to work with such a great team, has really made it worth the wait!”

O’Shea will perform in Nashville at the Bluebird Cafe on Friday, September 9 and Music City Roots on Wednesday, October 19.

New Music Weekend – O’Shea

This duo can sing, that’s for sure! My favorite would have to be the song “Alone“, so I am going to elaborate on this one.

It’s a sad song. At first talking about an orphan girl, that has obviously been put up for adoption. A couple comes in to adopt, and of course chose to adopt a younger child, and she wonders how it feels to be loved by someone else. The main line in the chorus, which captures the title “Alone” is “you come into this world alone, you go out of this world alone. There’s that space in between where no one should have to be alone”. The next verse goes on to tell the story of a 60 year old man who’s lost his wife, and can’t remember how to get to different places because she always lead him there. With all of that being said, in a relationship where the couple may be having problems, they could “give up and throw in the towel instead of fighting for what they have, because it’s easier not to work it out”. Then again if they “break up and let it all end, there’s no guarantee they will ever find love again”.

Smash” is so cute! You’ve got to love this love song. This is about how a love like theirs is rare. They don’t care about money as long as they have each other. Their love is a “smash, a big ole fashion hit, they don’t come around like this too often, now it’s burning up the charts, because baby your my #1″. Who doesn’t just LOVE that lyric??

Empty” has some awesome vocals, but as for a few other songs, I just really couldn’t get into them. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check them out for yourself! We all have our opinions, right?! If you head over to their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/therealoshea you can get their album for only $5, sounds like a deal to me.
