Lynyrd Skynyrd Celebrates Grand Opening of Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer in Las Vegas

The grand opening of Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer (www.LynyrdSkynyrdLV.com) wouldn’t have been complete without Lynyrd Skynyrd rockin’ the house as they opened their first venue at Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last night. Baseball’s Jose Canseco, Grammy-Award winner, famed trumpeter and pianist, Arturo Sandoval, Carlos Fuente, jr., president of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia, championship bull riders Beau Hill and Rocky McDonald, Playmate and star of E!’s “Holly’s World” and Excalibur’s Night School 4 Girls, Laura Croft, and the casts of FANTASY, including headliner, Lorena Peril, and Thunder From Down Under, took in the Southern rockers as they played “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” “Gimme Three Steps,” and more.

The week-long celebration included the official American Country Awards after-party on Monday, Dec. 5, with country newcomer, Brett Eldredge, and band members from Thompson Square and No Doubt in attendance.

Jack Daniel’s hosted an “Eat ‘N’ Greet” lunch with Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke and Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as the rest of the band, at 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Also in attendance was Jeff Arnett, the 17th Master Distiller in history for the iconic bourbon. Guests enjoyed photos and conversation with the band as they dined on ribs, jalapeno cheddar sausage, chicken, mashed potatoes and more. Van Zant’s favorites were the brisket and mac & cheese, as Medlocke noted that the pecan pie was the best he’s ever had.

The food itself is of legendary status, with a menu developed in partnership with Kreuz Market, a 111-year-old Lockhart, Tex. institution. The barbecue at Kreuz Market has consistently been named the best in the country.

A portion of proceeds from the grand opening concert will be donated to the Epicurean Charitable Foundation of Las Vegas, the Lynyrd Skynyrd Foundation and Nevada Children’s Medical Center.

Las Vegas-based Michael Frey and Craig Gilbert of Drive This! Entertainment came together with Lynyrd Skynyrd to develop Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer, a concept they plan to expand into other cities.

Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer serves mouthwatering ribs, brisket, chicken and more. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the restaurant and bar transforms into a late-night, high-energy rock club every night with great music and entertainment.

New Music Weekend – Picking Violets

Picking Violets, (formerly known as EzraJane) consist of two amazingly talented women. A church sponsored picnic is where Erica Stone and Kelly Weston first met. They began singing together at church in southeast Missouri.  Click here to read more about how Picking Violets got started and make sure you download their free song “What I’m Standing Here For”.

I’ve listened to Picking Violets’ “What I’m Standing Here For” over and over! I love it! The music is up-beat and their voices blend together in perfect harmony. When I listened to it the first time, the voice sounded extremely familiar. I honestly don’t know if it is Kelly or Erica, but they sound very similar to Gwen Stefani (former singer of No Doubt) which I think is a good thing. What I gathered from this song is that the girl in the relationship is trying to make it work and tries to please him as he continues to look over her and is unappreciative.

“Why do you keep looking? I’m right in front of you. Looking in your eyes but you keep staring right on through. Why do you keep looking? I’m knockin’ at your door, but I’m starting to wonder what I’m standing here for”

I know how she feels! I’m ready to hear a follow up song for this one!

In addition to their great voices the ladies of Picking Violets also have a big heart.

The girls and several members of their foundation “The Raining Season” left this past Saturday to launch their latest project The Covering, a children’s home in West Freetown that will house 86+ orphaned children. The Covering is a result of their most recent fundraisers, where Kelly Weston and Erica Stone and a team of friends and family raised over $40,000 to start this project.  To find out more information visit:
