Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher to Stop Shaving

Apparently Carrie Underwood isn’t a big fan of hair…or at least facial hair on her hubby Mike Fisher. According to People.com, Mike Fisher will soon be sporting a 5 o’clock shadow and then some as the Nashville Predators enter the playoffs.

“I’m not looking forward to the playoff beard,” she joked to PEOPLE. “[The players] all grow out their facial hair during the playoffs. So before they started, I told Mike, ‘You need to shave close.’ He always looks good with a little stubble, but it’s probably going to get out of hand soon.”

So, to prove a point, Carrie’s decided to join in the fun.

“I’m going to stop shaving, too,” she said. “Just kidding!”

Dolly Parton Inspires a Local Nashville Artist with Her Kindness

Two years ago Dolly Parton did a local Nashville artist, Beth Inglish, a huge favor.    Check out this true story about Alux and how Dolly was able to inspire and change people through her incredible heart.

Two years ago Dolly Parton did me a huge favor. She doesn’t know it yet, but I’m so grateful for her kindness that I painted a portrait of her and will give the painting to Dolly (via a mutual friend) later this month.

This is a true story inspired by her and the people she changed through her incredible heart.

In 2004 I met a man who would change my life forever. This man’s name was Alex. He was six feet tall, 31 years old and had brain damage caused by a car accident when he was only a senior in high school.Nearly everyday for two years I went to his home and spent time with him and his family. Every morning we went to the mall and walked for exercise, then we would have a snack, go home and have lunch, watch TV, take a nap and play games til the sun went down. This routine happened everyday and it wasn’t long before Alex and I became best friends.

Alex loved Dolly Parton. He talked about her every day for as long as I’ve known him. Even though his accident took away many of the abilities we all take for granted, it never took away his ability to love. He brought joy to everyone around him and I’ve never stopped thinking about how our relationship changed my life.

So every birthday, every Christmas and every Valentines Day I sent Alex a gift. It just so happened when his birthday was coming up two years ago, I was introduced to Dolly’s personal artist.

I knew it was a stretch, but I had to try. I asked her to get me an autographed picture from Dolly to Alex wishing him a Happy Birthday. Then about a month later Sarah brought me a packet including a personalized autographed picture (below), with CDs and all kinds of other merchandise. I knew at that moment God had answered my prayers.

Dolly

Sending Alex such an incredible gift was one of my proudest moments and is why I felt so inspired to paint Dolly a portrait. I know it isn’t much, but when I have a chance to share with someone how they have touched my life, I take it!

Sometimes people never know how they affect other’s lives, but if we all just shared our stories to lift up the people that mean the most to us, then what more could you ask for?

In my artist statement it says, “My pieces reflect my own inner joy and my intention for my artwork is to cultivate joy in others.” That’s what it’s all about really and hopefully I’ve accomplished that one more time.

Garth Brooks Live, Loud and Ready to Rock Nashville

Nashville is HOT and ready for Garth Brooks live from Bridgestone Arena as he kicks off his 2 opening shows tonight.

Garth held a press conference earlier this evening and says he’s flattered so many are coming in from out of town and he wants to let people know “that Nashville is up and running again.” With all the volunteers, Garth Brooks estimates his 9 flood-relief Nashville shows will cost only $3-400,000.  He will raise at least $4 million for the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Garth announced in October that he would do one show in Nashville to benefit the foundation. When tickets went on sale Nov. 3, he sold out nine shows in four hours.

“We just said we’ll sell tickets as long as we have people wanting them,” Brooks said at a preconcert news conference on Thursday.

“I’m very proud to be a part of this. You say things, not knowing what will really happen. Nashville is one of the hardest markets to sell concert tickets. I can’t tell you how big this whole thing has gotten and how lucky I feel to be a part of it,” he said.

New Year’s Eve-Nashville Style

Nashville held its first guitar drop on New Years Eve during their Bash on Broadway. Thousands of folks from across the country gathered on Broadway to watch a free concert, featuring Rodney Atkins, and to watch a 10 foot lighted guitar drop with fireworks exloding in the background to ring in 2010.
