If you have been watching “American Idol” or following along with our weekly recaps you may remember this season of “American Idol” kicking off with Tennessee’s own 17 year-old Mackenzie Wasner. She wowed the judges with her skillful rendition of Vince Gill’s “Whenever You Come Around.” Her father, Pete Wasner, is Vince Gill’s longtime keyboard player. The young singer seemed to be one to watch, but now it seems even though Mackenzie got herself a golden ticket to Hollywood her journey on Idol has come to an abrupt halt.
On the morning of February 5th she took to her Facebook page to share the sad news that she will no longer be competing on the show. Here is what she said,
First off, I just want to thank you all for your amazing support. It was so much fun getting to sing for the celebrity judges on American Idol!!!! It’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing and they were all so kind and gracious, it was truly exciting.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will not be competing in the finals in Hollywood. While I’m disappointed, nothing will stop me from continuing to pursue my dream of entertaining everyone through my music. I’ll update my Facebook page to let you know about my plans – and I hope I get to meet all of you and sing for you! I can’t wait to see who is the next American Idol!! :)”
Who knows what the “circumstances beyond my control” could possibly be, but it seems Mackenzie has the right attitude and I am sure we will see her again at some point in time.
