CMA Fest Kick-Off Parade Participants Announced!

2012_cma_music_festival_logo_21916

CMA kick starts 2012 CMA Music Festival on Wednesday, June 6th with The Eighth Annual CMA Music Festival Kick-Off Parade at 11:00 AM/CT, followed by The Seventh Annual CMA Music Festival Block Party at 12:30 PM/CT.

Country icon Glen Campbell will be the Grand Marshal for the Parade. Campbell last performed at CMA Music Festival in 2004. He has received two CMA Awards, including CMA Entertainer of the Year (1968) and Male Vocalist of the Year (1968), and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Last year, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Since then, he released his final album, the critically-acclaimed Ghost on the Canvas, and is in the midst of his successful Goodbye Tour.

“Last year more than 16,000 fans lined Broadway for the Parade and with our beloved Glen Campbell as Grand Marshal this year we are expecting even more people to come out and show their support and love for this iconic Country Music figure,” said Sheri Warnke, CMA Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

The Eighth Annual CMA Music Festival Kick-Off Parade will launch from Tenth Avenue on Broadway and end at Riverfront Park, site of the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage (First Avenue). One of the most popular features of the parade is the 40 Country Music artists riding in a wide variety of Chevrolet vehicles including vintage Corvettes.

Little Big Town has a different mode of transportation planned for the Parade. In support of their new single “Pontoon” each member of the group, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook, will be riding on four different Premier pontoon boats alongside lucky fans.

“What could we do for the fans that would be unique? Well, we can ride them around on a pontoon at the CMA Festival Kick-Off Parade!,” said Fairchild. “After the parade we’ll have the honor of kicking off the Block Party at the Riverfront Stage singing ‘Pontoon.’ It’s a good way to start CMA Fest, don’t you think?”

With Campbell as Grand Marshal, other artists are lining up to participate in the Parade including Bill Anderson, Lynn Anderson, Katie Armiger, Craig Wayne Boyd, Weston Burt, Craig Campbell, Bucky Covington, Cowboy Troy, Ira Dean, Jaida Dreyer, Due West, Tyler Farr, Florida Georgia Line, Flynnville Train, Colt Ford, The Grascals, Greg Hanna, Amber Hayes, Angie Johnson, Little Big Town, LoCash Cowboys, Rachele Lynae, Manuel, The McClymonts, Randy Montana, Lorrie Morgan, Craig Morrison, The Oak Ridge Boys, Chase Rice, Marlee Scott, Matt Stillwell, Payton Rae, David St. Romain, The Roys, Jason Sturgeon, Trent Tomlinson, Trailer Choir, Rhonda Vincent, and Corey Wagar.

Other participants include the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, BIC® Soleil Sunshine Squad, Carl Black Chevrolet and the Luke Bryan/Eric Church 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, The 22nd Annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge, Cooter’s Garage General Lee, GEICO Gecko, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, Gnash and the Nashville Predators Dancers and Ice Girls, the Jelly Bean on Tour Bus, military veterans riding the Music City Trolley, Music City Drum and Bugle Corps, a 40×60 foot American flag that will be carried by veterans and representatives of Nashville’s Fire Department, Metro Nashville Police Department Drill and Ceremony Team, Metro Police Mounted Unit, Metro Police Special Operations Boat and SWAT Rescue Truck, Nashville Rollergirls, Nashville Zoo and Twiga (the Zoo’s giraffe mascot), Operation Troop Aid, Travel Channel’s Destination Summer Tour Bus, and more.

Making its second appearance in the Kick-Off Parade is the Keep the Music Playing All Stars Marching Band, which is made up of 125 students representing eight Metro Nashville Public Schools including Antioch High School, East Literature Magnet School, Hillsboro High School, Hunters Lane Comprehensive High School, John Overton High School, Maplewood High School, McGavock High School, and Stratford STEM Magnet High School playing together for the first time under the direction of Antioch High School band director Scott Miller, associate director Caryn Miller, and Jarrett Jones, who will be assisting with the drum line.

Since 2006, CMA has donated half the net proceeds from the Festival to support music education through the Keep the Music Playing program on behalf of the artists who make appearances and perform for free.

To date, more than $6.1 million has been donated to purchase musical instruments and supplies, providing thousands of students in Metro Schools with the resources and opportunities they could not have afforded on their own, and giving many of them a strong reason to remain in school. The total also includes a $1 million endowment gift for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Words & Music program, which assists language arts and music teachers with classroom instruction in the basics of songwriting.

Following the parade, The Seventh Annual CMA Music Festival Block Party will take place at the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage. Free and open to the public, the concert starts at 12:30 PM with Little Big Town kicking it off followed by Brazilbilly, Eric Lee Beddingfield, and LoCash Cowboys.

The Block Party is just the beginning, with four more days of live entertainment throughout downtown Nashville.

The Country Music Hall of Fame Partners with the American Heart Association Exhibit that Included Sara Evans, Lorrie Morgan and More

go-red-for-women1 Country Music Hall of Fame

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is opening a spotlight exhibit, Something in Red, in support of the American Heart Association and Go Red For Women®. The exhibition, which will feature red ensembles from several country stars, including Sara Evans, Naomi Judd and Lorrie Morgan, will open on February 3, 2012 (National Wear Red Day), and run through April 2012.

The red dress is a symbol of the fight against heart disease in women. Several country artists have partnered with the American Heart Association and the museum to raise awareness of this disease, the number one killer of women, by making their own red dresses available for this special exhibit.

Among the dresses featured in Something in Red:

  • Sara Evans’ full-length velvet sheath with feathers, designed by Victor Costa for Nahdree and worn at the 1999 Academy of Country Music Awards
  • Naomi Judd’s leather-like jacket and skirt with bugle beading, rhinestones, and tulle crinoline, designed by Esben and Vanessa Ware and the Judds and worn at the 1987 Country Music Association Awards
  • The JaneDear girls’ Danelle Leverett’s strapless Daisy mini-dress with floral detailing, worn on the cover of the duo’s 2011 self-titled debut album; and the JaneDear girls’ Susie Brown’s shimmering cocktail dress, designed by Ryan Gamboa and worn at the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards
  • Lorrie Morgan’s full-length Caché gown with pleated bodice and spaghetti straps, worn on the Grand Ole Opry
  • Julie Roberts’ one-shouldered, matte jersey cocktail gown with rhinestone embellishments, made by Caché and worn on the Grand Ole Opry

Spotlight exhibits supplement themes and topics in the museum’s core exhibition, Sing Me Back Home: A Journey Through Country Music. These short-term, informal displays provide a closer look at a particular person, group or aspect of country music, or they spotlight recently donated items or special anniversaries. Rotated often, spotlight exhibits also offer a glimpse into the museum’s unique collection, which includes recorded discs; historical photographs; films and videotapes; posters; books; songbooks; periodicals and sheet music; personal artifacts such as performers’ instruments, costumes and accessories; and more.

Other current spotlight exhibits focus on the Academy of Country Music Awards, Bobby Braddock, Nudie Cohn, Bill Monroe, Rascal Flatts, Reba, Jean Shepard and Porter Wagoner.

Lorrie Morgan to Perform at a Christmas Concert for the Troops

Lorrie Morgan

Among a list of Hollywood notables and American heroes, Lorrie Morgan, will perform at Christmas Concert For The Troops–an annual holiday concert in honor of active duty military–at our nation’s capital early next month.

Lorrie, among others, will entertain an intimate crowd of invitation-only guests at the resplendent John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall in Washington, DC. The Christmas Concert For The Troops (presented by D.C. residents Suzy and Bob Pence along with the USO of Metropolitan Washington) is scheduled to take place the evening of Tuesday, December 6th. The whimsical gala is a private holiday celebration held purely in gratitude and recognition of the men and women who serve on behalf of our country.

As part of the entertainment fare, Lorrie will dedicate three song selections: “My Favorite Things” will set the Yuletide tone and as her musical gift to attendees, and she will perform “America The Beautiful” with Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young (current cast member of “The Jersey Boys”). Morgan will also sing “In My Room” alongside legendary recording artists The Beach Boys.

All performances will be backed by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by American composer Marvin Hamlisch. Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan, and actor John Stamos will host Christmas Concert For The Troops.

In early 2012 Lorrie prepares to release Beyond The Interview: Lorrie Morgan, a boxed set featuring Morgan originals and a documentary film with appearances by family, friends and industry peers, and some of Lorrie’s all-time personal musical favorites.

Lorrie Morgan Takes Her Show Abroad

Lorrie Morgan has just returned from two stints in Europe. Marking the first time in nearly ten years, Morgan and crew traveled overseas to share her musical collection with some of her closest international fans.

“After ten years, I couldn’t wait to get back. The people and sights are just as beautiful as I remember. …And it’s breathtaking to see folks from all walks of life sing the lyrics to my songs while I’m performing. Country music is truly a universal language that speaks to all,” Lorrie gushed. “I’m already talking to promoters about returning next summer.”

The beginning of summer found Morgan in Germany for two consecutive shows in late June at Four Corners Music Hall in Untermeitingen, an hour just outside of Munich. The June journey then led her through the mountains and countryside to Interlaken, Switzerland where she appeared at the 3-day annual Trucker & Country Festival. Performing on an indoor stage at the bottom of the Swiss Alps, Morgan entertained the venue’s full capacity–4,500 attendees.

Concluding the first leg of her European tour, her itinerary changed direction toward Italy where she performed at Cowboy Ranch located in Voghera, in close proximity to Milan. Morgan then returned to the U.S. to appear in back-to-back shows stateside before heading overseas once more in August.

Just a few short weeks ago, Morgan appeared in Silkeborg, Denmark at the SCC Country Music Festival. At the finale of the night’s performance, Morgan jet-set to the Scandinavian Country Fair in Furuvik, Sweden where she performed the very next day.

Having just returned to the States, Morgan’s momentum continues. A true-blue road warrior, Lorrie is now gearing up for her Fall schedule which will once again take her cross country from the Dakotas to Wyoming and Montana, then back to the Midwest in Indiana before heading southward toward home to perform in Kentucky, Texas and her home state of Tennessee. She’ll wrap the 2011 tour season with dates in Alaska for a handful of dates after which she’ll headline shows up and down the East coast.

In the meantime, Lorrie is preparing to release Beyond the Interview: Lorrie Morgan (ANR Records), a boxed set which features a documentary video with appearances by family, friends and industry peers, and some of Lorrie’s all-time personal musical favorites. The boxed set is scheduled for a late Fall 2011 release.
