Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Merle Haggard and More to Headline Oklahoma City’s New Summer Music Festival

OKC Fest

The refrain “GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66” will take on new life at the first annual OKCFEST 2014 — a new summer music festival that is the brainchild of Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and prominent business and civic leader Fred Hall. Supported by a growing alliance of business, community and entertainment industry leaders, the OKCFEST 2014 mid-summer musical party and festival will attract an estimated 30,000 fans, and underscores the ever-growing vibrancy and vitality of Oklahoma City — both present and future.

From Thursday June 26 through Sunday June 29, the harmonious sounds of contemporary and traditional country, rock, bluegrass, jazz, unplugged singer-songwriter showcases – including an exclusive appearance by four of Nashville’s current top hit song writers – “rock en Espagnol” and gospel music will reverberate throughout Downtown Oklahoma City.  Production stages will be concentrated in the Myriad Gardens vicinity across from the City’s iconic Devon Energy Tower and the Chesapeake Energy Arena, home of the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA basketball team, and blocks from the city’s popular Bricktown entertainment district, Oklahoma River Boathouse District, Film Row and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and other prominent cultural and recreational destinations.  Within walking distance of the festival staging area are dozens of hotels, restaurants and bistros offering a variety of cuisine, unique shopping and ample public parking options.

Reflecting the genre’s historic Oklahoma popularity, country was selected as the focus of the Festival’s first year scheduling. Headline performers will include popular recording stars Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Merle Haggard, Randy Rogers, Kix Brooks, Josh Abbott, Casey Donahew and Scotty McCreery on the OKCFEST’s Main Stage Friday and Saturday nights.  Celebrated producer, composer and renowned jazz vocalist Steve Tyrell and his 8-piece band will kick-off the weekend with an exclusive and independently ticketed Thursday night show for festival underwriters, sponsors and their special guests.  The high-profile first year line-up resulted from a collaborative effort between Fred Hall and Victor Sansone, the respected past chairman of the Country Music Association and former ABC radio executive, who is serving as an entertainment and production consultant to OKCFEST.

One-day and two-day passes for the main stage event area, which will feature food, beverage and unique shopping throughout OKCFEST, go on sale April 11 through the OKCFEST Festival Website (online at, at, and in select Oklahoma ProTix retail locations), with main stage site admission available for purchase at $35 per day and $59 for two-day passes.

Additional music and other entertainment events on three nearby Myriad Garden stages will be free to the public Friday through Sunday afternoons and evenings, with preferred seating at each stage reserved for those holding OKCFEST passes.

Lady Antebellum’s “Golden” Featuring Stevie Nicks Available on iTunes

Three-time ACM “Vocal Group of the Year” Lady Antebellum performed their single “Golden” featuring Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks of the ACM Awards last night and it is available on iTunes now.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought we’d have the chance to perform with Stevie Nicks, let alone develop a friendship like we have on and off stage,” said Lady A’s Hillary Scott. “When we first sat down with her, ‘Golden’ was one of our songs that really touched her, so we recently asked her if she’d be willing to record her vocal for it – and she agreed! The timing ended up being perfect and we may have even worked up a little ACM-twist for Sunday’s performance!”

“I love Lady Antebellum, and to me, this song is their ‘Landslide’ because it’s just that spectacular,” said Nicks who wrote Fleetwood Mac’s iconic song, which first debuted on their self-titled album 1975 and has remained a legendary hit for decades.

49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards

Let’s get this party started!

  • Check out the sexy side of Kimberly Perry! The Band Perry is kicking off the ACM’s with a performance of Chainsaw.
  • You know it’s gonna be a great Awards show when Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton are hosting!
  • Florida Georgia Line a little slower than usual with Stay.
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE how Blake Shelton continues to support his Voice contestants.  Love us some Gwen Sebastian performing “Come a Little Closer” with Blake.   Have I mentioned we love Blake Shelton?
  • Did you vote for Brett Eldredge for ACM New Artist of the Year??? WE DID!  He’s dancing to the “Beat of the Music” tonight!  He looks so excited to be performing tonight!
  • We are a half hour into the show and it’s been all about the performances.  Gotta say I am all about the music and less about the awards these days.  What about you?
  • A little sad to know the cowboy is riding away this year.  George Strait understands what true country music is all about.  The audience gives King George a standing ovation.
  • Lee Brice performing a stripped down acoustic version of “I Drive Your Truck.”
  • Eric Church is a force to be reckoned with in country music.  He sounds fantastic performing “Give Me Back My Hometown.”
  • Justin Moore is always a fan favorite.  His performance of “Lettin’ the Night Roll” sounds great!  Really wish they would let the new artists sing a full song.
  • Blake Shelton’s second performance of the night.  What do you think of Shakira’s new duet “Medicine” with Blake?  A lot of the Twitter feedback has been negative.
  • Taylor Swift gets to give out the first award of the evening.  Your ACM Duo of the Year is….. Florida Georgia Line.
  • A country music selfie with Blake, Luke…..  Who would you want to include in your country music selfie?
  • Stevie Nicks is at the ACM Awards!!!!   AHHHH!   Lady Antebellum and Stevie sound FANTASTIC!
  • No one, I mean NO ONE plays guitar like Keith Urban.  He is mesmerizing. Still not loving his new haircut but his performance of “Even the Stars Fall for You” is my favorite of the night so far.
  • Kip Moore has a good shot at the New Artist Award tonight.  Ladies love them some Kip.
  • Bluke Lyran… performing “Play it Again” and sporting David Nail’s haircut.
  • Your ACM Best New Artist is…… Justin Moore.   Personally, I don’t think Justin should have been included in this category since he is not really a new artist but hey…I don’t make the rules.
  • Not sure how Jason Aldean’s performance of “When She Says Baby” sounds live in Las Vegas but on TV is doesn’t sound very good.
  • Blake and Luke as Daft Punk is GREAT!
  • Single Record of the Year goes to….Miranda Lambert for Mama’s Broken Heart!
  • Miranda Lambert’s new “Automatic” single is FANTASTIC!  Can’t wait to hear the new album!  Miranda pulls off a white tank top flawlessly.
  • Song of the Year Award goes to the songwriter…..It’s always a personal favorite for me.    And the award goes to…. Lee Brice for I Drive Your Truck.    This was one of my favorite songs of 2013.
  • Tim McGraw’s performing “Meanwhile Back at Mamas” looking dapper in a tux and signature black cowboy hat and being joined by his wife Faith.  I don’t know if it’s the song or something else but they aren’t as exciting as they used to be performing together.
  • I bet Mandalay Bay is getting it’s roof blown off right now with Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line performing “This is How We Roll”
  • Your ACM Male Vocalist of the Year is Jason Aldean.
  • Toby Keith sporting his red bandana for his ACM performance of “Shut Up and Hold On”
  • Your Vocal Group of the Year is….  THE BAND PERRY!
  • Hunter Hayes dares to be different with “Invisible”
  • Your ACM Female Vocalist of the Year is Miranda Lambert!
  • Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum performing the GRAMMY winning song “Wagon Wheel”  This is one of those songs you can’t help but sing along to.   Darius Rucker just pulled off a sing along at an awards show!
  • ACM Album of the Year goes to Kacey Musgraves for Same Trailer Different Park.  And apparently Eric Church really agrees with this decision based on his standing ovation.
  • Garth Brooks, George Strait and Miranda Lambert paying tribute to the legendary Merle Haggard.
  • Rascal Flatts performance of “Rewind” sounded great but it looked like they were lip syncing.  Anyone else notice that?
  • Dierks Bentley and Sheryl Crow are rocking “Hold On”
  • Your 2014 ACM Entertainer of the Year is KING GEORGE STRAIT!!!!!!!

Well folks, that’s the show.  Now it’s your turn to sound off!  Tell us what you thought of the 49th Academy of Country Music Awards.  Best/Worst performances.  Did your favorite artists win or lose?  Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.
