Billy Dean’s Holiday Season a Barnburner… Literally

Billy Dean

This past holiday season while country music star Billy Dean was touring the countryside with Kenny Rogers, disaster struck back at home. Dean’s farm, ‘Dean Acres,’ located in Smithville, TN caught ablaze, destroying the Grammy Award-winning country star’s farm barn.

The fire destroyed the entire 1,500 square foot barn that contained Dean’s fishing boat, tractor and many career keepsakes. Dean lost demos and master recordings that dated back to the early days of his career, before he was signed to a label. In addition, vintage posters and photos from Dean’s early 20’s were also taken in the blaze.

“I lost a lot things that were very meaningful to me but no one was hurt and that’s really all that matters at the end of the day,” says Dean. “We’ll rebuild but I’m really going to miss that tractor and fishing boat this spring.”

The blaze is not expected to affect the country star’s plans for 2012 public events at his home. In coming weeks, Dean is expected to make an official announcement about public events to be held at ‘Dean Acres.’

Billy Dean to Join Kenny Rogers on ‘Christmas and Hits’ Tour

Billy Dean will join country legend Kenny Rogers to “jingle all the way” from Columbus, Ohio to Westbury, New York on Rogers’ 30th “Christmas and Hits Tour” kicking off the day after Thanksgiving.

The country stars will perform a mixture of holiday classics and their respective hits throughout 16 cities for the “Christmas in America” themed tour. The tour makes every concert a unique experience for each city by inviting local children’s choirs to accompany the duo on stage for the show. Dean believes this is a heartwarming aspect of the tour and the part that he enjoys most. “A big highlight is getting to rehearse each day with the local kids who join the show,” says Dean. “To use Kenny’s words, ‘it’s not Christmas until the choir sings.’”

This holiday season marks Dean’s second year joining Rogers on the road for his annual Christmas tour.

“One of my favorite parts of the tour is every afternoon before each show, Kenny comes in to the band dressing room to hang with the guys, warm-up, and share stories,” Dean says.

“Thirty years is a long time to do anything, but a Christmas show seems to get easier every year, especially when I get a chance to work with friends like Billy Dean,” Rogers adds. “He always brings a great energy and beautiful music to the event.”

Lionel Richie to Debut Country Duets from Upcoming Album at the 45th Annual CMA Awards

Lionel Richie will release Tuskegee, his much-anticipated country duets album, in March on Mercury Nashville, after debuting songs on the national broadcast of the 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards, airing live Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. ET on the ABC Television Network.

During the broadcast Richie will perform select duets of his runaway hits with Little Big Town, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts.

Surpassing his creative and personal boundaries, Richie comes full circle with the innovative and personal Tuskegee, performing 13 of his most revered “anthems of our day” with some of the biggest names in country music, including Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Little Big Town and Jason Aldean.  On this worldwide, multi-genre album, Richie is also joined by the likes of such superstars as Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

Tuskegee is an exciting and transcendent arc in a career that has seen album sales of more than 100 million, 22 Top 10s, five Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe, and a host of other awards from virtually every major entertainment organization.

While defying boundaries and breaking barriers throughout his storied career, Richie reveals once again that Tuskegee will join the ranks of his timeless body of work that touches people of all faiths, ages and demographics across the world.

“As my songwriting progressed, I realized that my songs perfectly translated to the country genre,” says the living legend as he taps on the keys of the piano in his state-of-the-art recording studio.

It was when Conway Twitty sang “Three Times a Lady” along with songs such as “Lady” and “Deep River Women” that Richie knew country music was clearly omnipresent in the lyrics he wrote.

“I was born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. I am a country boy and proud of it. To do this project just felt natural,” says Richie. “Growing up with country, R&B, gospel, and classical music from my grandmother and pop, Tuskegee was the perfect melting pot for my influences as a writer,” he says, “and the title, Tuskegee, is a validation of my growing up there—the place I call home.”  “Tuskegee is a state of mind as it is a place,” he adds, “…a place of possibility, hope, promise, self-empowerment, and where dreams come true.”
