Chris Young Plays Keith Whitley’s Guitar at Opry

Chris Young recently showcased a piece of music history in a taped appearance at the Grand Ole Opry where he played a guitar once owned by the late Keith Whitley. Young, a fan of the iconic singer, acquired the Sigma by Martin – one of Whitley’s three primary guitars – from Music City Pickers, a company that buys and sells vintage musical instruments. The company’s founders, #1 hit singer/songwriter Brady Seals and former Gibson Guitars web editor Gabriel Hernandez, discovered the instrument on a buying trip to Lexington, Kentucky, in early August.

“Keith Whitley has always been one of my musical heroes, so to get the chance to hold a piece of history in my hands and play his guitar on the Opry stage was beyond awesome,” shared Young.

Tune in to Great American Country ( GAC) “Opry Live” on Saturday, October 29th as Young performs his recent hits “You” and “Tomorrow” in addition to Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” on the fabled guitar, airing at 9 pm ET on GAC.

Music City Pickers maintains an ever-evolving array of vintage and newer high quality instruments for sale. To view the current collection, visit the Music City Pickers website at www.musiccitypickers.com.

Keith Whitley: “When You Say Nothing At All” – Flashback Weekend

Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing at All” is the second of a string of 5 back-to-back #1′s for him. The motorcycle in the video is his beloved Harley that was enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Keith’s son Jesse inherited it upon his 18th birthday in July 2005, but he subsequently donated it back to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Shane Wyatt – New Music Weekend

Shane Wyatt is a MN based, Okie born emerging country singer/songwriter who has been receiving national airplay over the past year. His singing and songwriting was heavily influenced by the soulful country singers whose pain and joy was so evident in every song they sang- Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard, and Alan Jackson.

The debut single “The Big Bad Dog”, from Shane’s album, “The Last Cowboy” is an up-beat song about a beat up truck. Apparently this truck is known for taking over the roads on I-35, and has made itself a name, “The Big Bad Dog”. So if your traveling down I-35 late at night, look out for this half Peter, half Mack semi-truck that has a missing driver side door. It will be going roughly 90 mph with it’s big chrome grill filling up your rear view mirror. If you happen to spot this beast, “you better move your ass!”

Another single from his album, “She Could Do Better”, tells a story of a woman who is in a mentally abusive relationship. Nothing is ever good enough in the eyes of her significant other. He is always reminding her that she can do better. While on the outside looking in, another man agrees, but in a different sense. She can do better than the man that she is with, and find somebody who appreciates every little thing she does. It’s a great song.
