Jenna Zablocki is more than a country singer. Oh so much more – she is also an actress and has acted opposite one of my very favs, Eric Roberts (Julia Roberts’ brother) in the movie “Killer Weekend”, only one of several movies in which she has acted.
Jenna was born and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and started toying with her grandmother’s piano at the age of five. For several years she then learned the piano, studying classical composers and playing not only for family and friends but also for her own fun. When she was in school she acted for the first time and realized it was time to perform and sing.
She pursued her studies in performing arts appearing in operas, musicals and theater in the sates of New Jersey, Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania. She moved to the west coast and pursued acting even though she continued with her music by writing and recording. Her first album “Powerful Stuff” drops in January and I think you’ll enjoy what you hear.
“Don’t Underestimate My Heart” is a song most of us can relate to containing all the euphemisms of a broken heart – broken, bruised, torn, and stepped on before. It’s an upbeat song having to do with survival of all of the above! She tells him she will get through this as well – there are no tear-jerking lines but rather uplifting phrases of going on!
“Blue Bayou”. This is an age-old classic written by a legend in the music industry, Roy Orbison, who penned the lyrics and wrote the music. Jenna sings this song with heart and with perfection on the high notes and sliding musical notes. She has the scaling done to perfection and her intonations along with her soothing voice make this a great song for her. She makes you want to “go back someday” to the “Blue Bayou with the fishing boats with their sails afloat” and see “that familiar sunrise through sleepy eyes”.
“A Little Bit Bad” opens with a great guitar rift and goes directly into a good clean country rock sound with great guitar. She sings about wanting to be “a little bit bad” with her baby and talks about it being good for the soul to be a just a little bit bad and doing some things you just shouldn’t do. She sings with a husky voice in this song and it is apparent she has a wide vocal range and can sing high notes as well as a husky female sensuous song.
