New Music Weekend – Jackson Taylor & the Sinners

Jackson Taylor, born to parents of migrant workers, and was one of eleven siblings. His life began in Moody, Texas, which is a small town north of Austin. Combining his real life experiences with old school country elements, and throwing in the flavors of punk and southern rock to create a style all his own, Jackson Taylor continues to break the rules of traditional country music with his straightforward lyrics.

Jackson states in his song, “Cocaine” that he did what he thought any man should do. After being cheated on and lied to, he decides to get high off of cocaine, get drunk everyday, and get with dirty girls. Well, looks like you must have shown her! She probably regrets ever leaving you…yeah…?

Special guest performances on the new album “Aces N Eights” include Austin legend, Dale Watson, Red-Dirt pioneer, Jason Boland and legendary guitarist, Jonny 2 Bags from Social Distortion. “Aces N Eights” brings a new dimension to Taylor’s “un-apologetic” style and continues to delight… sometimes offend.

For example, his song “Country Song”. For someone that would want to sing country music, I would figure they would have a little respect for music city and some of it’s greater influences. Evidently not this guy! He goes on bashing the Nashville scene, Trace’s “Honky Tonk Badonkydonk”, Johnny Cash, and disrespecting the Grand Ole Opry. I wouldn’t bother trying to make it again in Nashville, Jackson Taylor, just stay where you are.

Jackson tried to make his mark in Nashville. He found work as a songwriter, but after a couple of tough and frustrating years, Jackson had to face the hard truth that Nashville was not the “home” for which he had spent his whole life searching. Hmm.. I wonder why?
