Joey + Rory Announce ‘A Farmhouse Christmas’ Tour

Joey+Rory saw their A Farmhouse Christmas album hit stores this week, and now they have announced dates for their inaugural A Farmhouse Christmas Tour for 2011. Twelve dates are on the books, with the kickoff scheduled for November 25 in Joey’s hometown area of Anderson, Indiana. More dates are likely to be added.

Not just another Christmas show, A Farmhouse Christmas Tour is an invitation to join Joey+Rory in their living room for a special evening of love, country music and Christmas at the farm. The stage will be set up like the living room in their own 1870s farm house in Tennessee, and the evening of music, stories and memories will warm your heart more than a cup of hot cider on a cold day.

“Our hope is to bring a little bit of what it’s like at our farmhouse during Christmas time to each place that we visit,” said Joey. “Whether we’re in Boston, New Jersey or New York City…for that particular evening, in that place, everyone is in our living room with us, gathered around the tree.” Rory adds, “This is our favorite record we’ve ever made, and just being able to share these songs with people, night after night, is so exciting to us.”

The tour is sponsored by Roper Apparel and Footwear and booked by Creative Artists Agency (CAA.)

Joey + Rory Have a “Headache”

Headache. One word every man hates to hear – whether it’s used in truth or just in fun – is now the focal-point of a new song by  Joey+Rory, and the tune will hit Country radio on August 29th. Written by Joey+Rory with longtime friend and collaborator Wynn Varble, the infectious tune drives spikes in the best laid fishin’ – or other plans – of every good-hearted man.

“I feel a headache comin’ on.
I think this one’s a doozy,
It might last all month long.
So go on that’s fine, have a good time,
But remember while you’re gone.
I feel a headache comin’ on.”

“With this song, I think I’ve finally come up with the perfect solution for women to get their men to do some work around the house,” quipped Joey. “Since the day we wrote it, this song has been nothing but fun for Rory and I. We’ve been playing it out on the road for several months and the crowds have just loved it.”

Rory adds, “Like one of her heroes, Loretta Lynn, my wife likes calling it like it is. And this song definitely does just that. So does the video…it’s hilarious. Let’s just say, it doesn’t end well for me! Well, actually it does! Making the video was so much fun. We can’t wait for people to see it and to hear the song.”

The single will be the first release from the duo’s forthcoming third album  due out after the first of next year. The fun, tongue-in-cheek music video for “Headache”, shot at Joey+Rory’s farm, began airing on GAC this week and features Joey and her friends line-dancing.

“I love to line dance” Joey says, “when I was younger, my sister Julie and I used to sneak into 8 Seconds country nightclub in Indianapolis and spend the whole evening line-dancing. I miss doing it and I also miss seeing it in country videos.”

Joey + Rory to Release ‘A Farmhouse Christmas’

Award-winning duo Joey+Rory have set October 11th as the release date for their A Farmhouse Christmas album on Vanguard/Sugar Hill Records. In a unique move for holiday albums, 10 of the 12 cuts on the new cd are either new songs or cuts never released as Christmas songs.

The farmhouse Christmas theme for this album is right at home for the duo, as their personal lives are rooted in the 1870′s farmhouse where they live in the small community of Pottsville, TN.

“We made this record with hopes of trying to bring the listener into our home and share a small piece of our world at Christmas time with them,” Joey says. “Christmas means so much to Joey and me,” Rory adds. “It brings on so many feelings that other times of the year just don’t. We seem to laugh (and eat) more, think deeper, reminisce more, and for a short time, most of our priorities all to come into perspective”.

“Some people might wonder why we haven’t filled this record with more of the Christmas standards,” said Rory. “Well, the truth is, we feel like that’s what everyone seems to do, and we’d rather try to add a new song or two to the list of holiday classics that people listen to every Christmas, rather than just give them another take on the songs we all know and love.”

Humor is interspersed among touching original songs that fall right in line with Joey+Rory’s faith. The Garth Brooks and Kent Blazy-penned “I Know What Santa’s Getting for Christmas” is nothing but playful fun, and “What the Hell, It’s the Holidays” is as entertaining as it is irreverent. The spend-the-holiday-at-the-beach themed anthem “Let It Snow (Somewhere Else) that Joey+Rory wrote with James Slater and Tim Johnson, was aptly penned while at a songwriter festival in Key West. And “Another Wonderful Christmas” shows that the holidays are, at times, more like “Christmas Vacation” than “It’s a Wonderful Life” around the Feek household.

Rory wrote the beautiful original album opener “It’s Christmas Time” during a visit to Joey’s family farmhouse in Indiana. “I woke up one morning and found myself thinking about what it must have been like when Joey was a little girl, waking up all those Christmas mornings in that very house.” Montana’s own Stephanie Davis wrote “The Diamond O” and “The Gift” for the album, the latter of which Rory calls, “an absolute masterpiece.” Of Joey’s personal favorite on the album, “Remember Me,” Rory says, “Some songs you labor and labor over and some just seem to magically write themselves. This one was all magic.”

“Away In A Manger” and “Blue Christmas” are the two solo standards on A Farmhouse Christmas, but another highlight is an unlikely song for the holidays. Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December” was never meant to be a Christmas song, but Joey+Rory felt it fit perfect. “We can’t begin to tell you what an honor it is to have Merle singing on it with us,” said Joey. “There are some dreams that even when they come true, you still think you must be dreaming… and this is one.”

A Farmhouse Christmas was produced by Gary Paczosa and Carl Jackson and will be available everywhere this Christmas season. A Farmhouse Christmas concert tour is in the works, and details will be released shortly.

Joey & Rory’s 3rd Annual “Bib & Buckle Fest” Update

Joey+Rory have made a major change for their 3rd Annual “Bib & Buckle Fest” Homecoming Concert, Food & Fun event, set for this Saturday, June 4, 2011. Instead of hosting the concert in the field behind their house, they will move the show to their front yard. The front porch of their 1870s farm house in Pottsville, Tennessee will now be the stage, and fans will get a unique perspective for the variety of performances.

What started as a casual gathering of fans and friends for an afternoon of music and frivolity has turned into a full day of activities that includes a canoe float, games, karaoke, and of course, lots of music from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. with a five-mile canoe float down the Duck River. A limited number of canoes are available at River Rats Canoe Rental in Columbia, TN, so interested participants are encouraged to reserve a canoe early. Gates to the farm will open at 1:00 p.m., and volleyball, horseshoes, cornhole toss and kids’ fun and games will run until 3:00 p.m. Have a favorite Joey+Rory song you like to sing?! Karaoke will begin on the stage at 3:00 p.m. Joey+Rory will be signing autographs and taking pictures in the merchandise booth from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

“Each year we put on the festival, it grows and becomes even more fun than the last,” said Joey. Rory adds, “we travel, play shows and meet fans all year long in their communities around the country. This is a chance for fans to come and be a part of ours.”

Live music begins at 4:00 p.m., when Joey+Rory’s daughter Heidi Feek takes the stage to perform original songs. At 4:45, Rory will be joined by hit songwriter friends Wynn Varble, James Slater and Tim Johnson for a traditional “in-the-round,” performing and sharing stories behind hit songs they’ve written. Raffle and other prizes will be given away from sponsors such as Roper, Silpada and others at 6:00 p.m., and Joey+Rory will take the stage for an intimate performance with their band at 6:30 p.m.

A mobile diner will be on site offering simple hamburger and hot dog fare at old-time prices, and Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse, which is owned by Joey (and Rory’s sister Marcy), will be offering homemade desserts. Lyon’s Chevrolet will be displaying new vehicles and giving away free water. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, sun screen and anything else necessary to enjoy a fun-filled day in the sun.

Fans are also strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Due to the limited size of the parking area and lawn chair seating in the field, a maximum of 1,500 tickets will be available. When that number of tickets is sold no more will be available online or at the gate.

Advance tickets are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids under 12 and can be purchased online here or at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse, 4205 Highway 431 Columbia, TN. The phone number is (931) 380-0968. Tickets will be available at the gate, unless the event is sold out, for $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for kids under 12 for cash only. The rain date for Bib & Buckle Fest is Sunday, June 5, 2011.
