Jo Dee Messina to Host a “Night of Nostalgia”

Jo Dee Messina

Jo Dee Messina is hosting a “Night Of Nostalgia,” a big band swing and casino night, on Saturday, March 3 at 7pm in Nashville. The event–at the Maxwell House Hotel–will raise money for the non-profit Holy Trinity Montessori School. Tickets are $60 and include open bar, light fare and dancing. Patrons will also be treated to a performance from Cliff Notes and Messina herself. To reserve your tickets, visit: http://nostalgia2012.eventbrite.com.

Last year, Messina launched the “A Million Doors” campaign to help raise $2.3 million for the non-profit school in Nashville, with all funds going directly to the construction of a new schoolhouse. Check out www.amilliondoors.com.

The Nashville-based philanthropist is working closely with Holy Trinity Montessori school head Kate Riley to build the 6000 square foot school for students up through third grade, and possibly up to fifth, offering them an affordable, hands-on education. In the Montessori classroom, children are placed in a three-year multi-age grouping (0-3, 3-6, 6-9, etc.).

The school, founded in 2009, currently has 25 students enrolled, with another 45 on the waiting list. The new schoolhouse will accommodate up to–-but no more than–-125 children. At Holy Trinity Montessori, the children develop a secure sense of self, independence, deep concentration, pride in their environment and a unique connection to God. The Montessori curriculum offers a comprehensive, developmental early childhood environment with areas focusing on language, mathematics, sensorial, practical life, cultural and religion.

“This isn’t about just a cause I believe in or the latest celebrity charity,” says Messina. “I want this campaign to show that even in a time when people feel there is little hope, that there IS hope and dreams still DO come true. I chose it because we need people from all over to carry us with their support to make this dream come true.”

Jo Dee Messina’s Routine Check-Up Turned into Labor

Jo Dee Messina Family

Jo Dee Messina took to her blog, The Fumbling Mom, to share the story of becoming a mom of her two boys. Jo Dee’s second son, Jonah Christopher, was born last week. It turns out, she wasn’t exactly prepared for her routine check-up to turn into a trip to the hospital to have a baby.

Well, I guess the baby “dropped”. I went in for my weekly checkup yesterday and never made it home. I hadn’t been feeling so good, as I mentioned in my last blog. I told my Dr . As it turned out, I had been in labor for a little over a day. Contractions were now 3-5 minutes apart.

It was supposed to be a routine check up. My Dr told me to check into hospital across the street. I said, “tomorrow? Later today ?” He said “Now”. I had gone to my Drs directly following a photo shoot. Full make up. Tall boots. The works. I was so not planning on having a baby that afternoon. I didn’t have my bag packed. No camera, except for the one one my phone. Nothing in preparation for having a baby.

They had me prepped, ready and it was 20 minutes from my husbands arrival until the delivery of the baby. Jonah Christopher, 6lbs 13oz. My husband held him first, like he did with our first son. It’s so beautiful to see. Both boys look like their Dad. To adore someone so much, as I do my husband, and then to have your children look like him, I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.

We got Noah out of school early for his little brothers arrival. He was so excited. He couldn’t wait to hold him. Tonight, I am grateful. God has blessed my husband and I with such a beautiful family.

Congrats to Jo Dee and her family on their new arrival….And thank you for taking the time to write what us moms are thinking…
