New Music Weekend – Jason Rogers

jason rogers

For Jason Rogers, music has always been a driving force in his life. Jason comes from a small, rural community in eastern Canada, and he lived a simple, easy life growing up just enjoying nature, hunting and fishing.  At the very young age of 2 he began imitating Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” to anyone who would watch.  He had such a desire to perform that he learned the piano, guitar and percussion instruments as well.  At the age of 25 it was time for him to move to Nashville and pursue his dreams.  Those dreams led him to being signed by Cashbox Records and, like Taylor Swift and unlike most musicians in the industry, he has exclusive control over his creative rights with the record label.  He has produced and released his first self-titled album and has been featured as a rising star in Country Weekly magazine.  The young man may well be on his way to a smashing career.

His song “Breathe Into Me” is a wonderful Texas-style love song. The steel guitar is Texas through and through and his rich voice carries you around the dance floor in his arms.  It is a lovely love song about two people “breathing into each other” – like they are loving and giving life to one another – how romantic!

“Cold Here in Montana” is a ballad about coming home to cold, cold Montana after a love lost. He quit his job, packed up and left his cheating love in Tennessee and headed back home to the blue skies of Montana.  He pulls out a ring she will never see and states that even though it is cold in Montana it is cold as hell in Tennessee.  His writing and singing reminds me a bit of Randy Travis whose songs were also great love stories.

“Why Does Everybody Look at Me” is another Texas-style story song with a great swinging beat and steel guitar. The song talks about walking into a store and everybody is just looking at him! He thinks it might be his beat up truck or torn up jeans or cowboy hat. It’s a really cute song and you can just hear wonder and laughter in his voice as he wonders why he seems to be so interesting to others.

I enjoyed listening to all of his songs on www.myspace.com/jasonrogerscountrymusic.  You can also find his music at www.cowboyjason.com and iTunes and Facebook as well as Rhapsody and Walmart. I am hoping we will hear much more of this talented young man in the near future.
