Can’t Get Enough of Houston County’s “I Can’t Make It Rain”

houston-county-i-cant-make-it-rain

It’s always such a pleasant surprise when a song comes through the radio and touches your heart. Houston County’s “I Can’t Make It Rain” is that kind of song.

The heartfelt lyrics capture the pain, sadness and frustration of trying – unsuccessfully – to do everything right in an attempt to fix a wrong. Lead singer Zack Hooper’s vocals, a melancholy fiddle and a sad, sad guitar perfectly match the lyrics. Add some pedal steel, a piano gently tinkling in the background and some nice harmonies from brother Adam – it’s a powerful mix.

The song builds, swells and then breaks – courtesy of John Milldrum’s guitar solo – like a heart giving up on love. It leaves you completely caught up in the story and feeling the emotions of the tale.

“I Can’t Make It Rain” stays with you, like a really good song always will. It’s a very impressive debut single from a band I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from.
