Aaron Lewis Signs with Blaster Records

Aaron Lewis

Blaster Entertainment has signed Aaron Lewis to its growing roster of recording artists. Lewis received rave reviews for his inaugural country music project, “Town Line”, a solo EP that debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart last year. In addition, his debut single, “Country Boy” has been certified gold and had multiple award nominations.

“Country music was the first music I ever listened to,” Lewis said. “I sat on my grandfather’s lap listening to his country records and I grew to love them. The country audience has been so accepting of my music and I’m excited about working with the Blaster team to put out the new record this summer.”

Lewis’ current single, “Endless Summer” is picking up radio airplay now. Veteran music executive Skip Bishop, along with John Ettinger, Tony Benken and the entire Quarterback promotion team, have been introducing the song to radio stations. “You don’t have to look too far to find rabidly positive fans, press and excitement around Aaron Lewis,” Bishop says. “His music brings a very cool and contemporary edge to country radio.”

Aaron’s new music video for “Endless Summer” recently debuted on CMT’s Big New Music Weekend. Leslie Fram, Senior VP for Music Strategies at CMT said, “It was quickly obvious that we had just discovered the official anthem of the Summer of 2012!”

Lewis recently played to a record crowd at the Stagecoach Festival in California, an acoustic performance that one writer called one of the top five performances at that festival. Performing his recent hit “Country Boy” and other songs from his first country EP, Lewis had the crowd singing along.

Lewis follows in the footsteps of other great country artists who have signed with the Blaster Entertainment team. Hank Williams, Jr., Neal McCoy and Brother Trouble are also part of the Blaster family. Aaron Lewis’ full-length album is set for release later this summer. Blaster Records is distributed by Warner Music Nashville.

CMTT Exclusive: 10 Quick Quirky Questions with Tim Culpepper

Tim C.

Tim Culpepper’s journey began as kind of a love story, with the marriage of his Mother Judy, to his father, country entertainer/musician, Forrest Culpepper, or “Curly”, as he had come to be known by those who frequented the honkytonk scene in and around Montgomery, Alabama. The birth of Tim, soon after, would complete an already accomplished family of singers and musicians that, at the time, included such close friends as Hank Williams, Sr. (who had passed, before Tim’s birth), and Marty Robbins.

While most children began life experiencing a mostly subdued environment, young Culpepper was backstage with the likes of Hank, Jr., Marty and Johnny Cash, or in the audience with his Mother, while his father was performing. On one occasion, while sharing stories of her son’s early childhood, Judy fondly recalled one particular night during a Hank Jr. performance, when songwriter and manager, Merle Kilgore, was charged with babysitting “little Timmy”, while she got up to 2 step, “It wasn’t the ‘Brady Bunch!’” she laughs. “But we sure were a family!”

By age 9, anxious to take part in the “family business”, Tim approached his Father, holding an over-sized Epiphone guitar, asking for his first lesson. Having earlier traded the stage, for more stable work, as an over-the-road trucker, his Father agreed to teach his son with ONE condition- Tim had to promise that when ready, he would take his gift to Nashville. Curly did not want his son to waste his talent in the bars of Montgomery. In his opinion, the serious musician needs to be where things were happening…

With the recent release of his first single and video, “Ghost”, Tim continues the process of bringing full circle, a journey that began as a simple honkytonk love story under the neon lights of Montgomery, Alabama.

Curb to Release Hank Williams III

Hank Williams III

“Tidy” is not a word often associated with the against-the-grain work of Hank III, but it’s a fitting way to describe the way “Long Gone Daddy” packages up a full-bodied sampling of his career, style and influences.
Due April 17th on Curb Records, this 10-song collection could have been titled “Long Gone Granddaddy” for the shuffling country blues flavor of not just the Hank Williams covers but of much of the batch.

Grandpa’s contributions, title track “I’m A Long Gone Daddy” and “Neath A Cold Gray Tomb of Stone,” are complemented by fiddle and steel-drenched songs written by generations he influenced, including Merle Haggard (“The Bottle Let Me Down”), Johnny Cash (“Wreck of the Old 97”) and Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson (“Good Hearted Woman”).

The singer-songwriter Hank Williams influenced most – on this record, at least – is Hank III, whose remarkable vocal, including yodeling sendoff on the title track, would have been just right on a circa 1950 Grand Ole Opry or Louisiana Hayride stage.

A collection of six previously unreleased recordings and four resurrected from prior releases, the album is an exclamation point on the style and mood of Hank III’s 1999 “Risin’ Outlaw” breakthrough and acclaimed follow-up “Lovesick Broke & Driftin’.”

As “This Ain’t Montgomery,” a lament of the state of modern country, states: “Hank Williams is dead and he ain’t comin’ back here again.”

True, of course. But he’d be proud of his grandson.

Track Listing:
1) I’m A Long Gone Daddy
2) Sun Comes Up
3) The Bottle Let Me Down
4) Wreck Of The Old ’97
5) Neath A Cold Gray Tomb Of Stone
6) The Wind Blew Cold
7) Good Hearted Woman
8) This Ain’t Montgomery (with Joey Allcorn)
9) What They Want Me To Be
10) If The Shoe Fits (Shuffle Mix)
