Keith Urban to Headline Grammy Foundation Benefit

Keith Urban will headline the Grammy Foundation’s benefit Starry Night concert on July 23, 2010, at the LA Tennis Center at the University of California in Los Angeles.

Starry Night will benefit the GRAMMY Foundation’s GRAMMY in the Schools® music education programs for high school students and the Southern California Tennis Association Foundation. Keith is serving as GRAMMY Camp’s honorary dean to affirm his commitment to the GRAMMY Foundation’s music education programs for young people.

“I was so fortunate to have been exposed to music at such a young age,” said Keith. “It touched my heart and opened up a world of adventure and possibilities beyond anything I’d ever known. Being a part of this concert, supporting the efforts of the GRAMMY Foundation and the Southern California Tennis Association Foundation, is something that I feel very strongly about, because I know firsthand what art, music and sport can do for our youth.”

Keith Urban: A Grammy is a ‘big deal’

Keith Urban

Keith Urban already has 2 Grammy Awards to his name, but he could possibly add 4 more at tonight’s Grammy Awards.  The gold statues would just be icing on the cake.  In 2009 Keith was the most played country artist on radio with a number 1 album, 2 #1 songs, and sold out concerts across the country; including the We’re All For the Hall benefit concert. The Tennessean.com gives some insight into the mind of one of country music’s biggest stars.

Even though Keith is the proud owner of no doubt hundreds of guitars, there is one guitar he wishes he had…

An Ibanez copy of a Fender Telecaster Deluxe. That was my first electric guitar. Wish I still had it. I traded that one and bought a candy apple red Fender Strat, because I wanted one that looked like Mark Knopfler’s.

Keith Urban is known to love and respect all types of music. In fact, most of his shows are infused with southern rock and oldies, but it’s a fellow countryman…or should I say woman…that’s on Keith’s ears these days.

I love Miranda Lambert’s record. It sounds like it was made by an artist who treats every song as distinctive. I have tremendous respect for what she’s doing.

Even with all of today’s digital ‘toys,’ Keith still prefers to go ‘old school’ when writing/recording a new song…

I get a Sony Shoebox cassette recorder with the pullout handle, a guitar and a drum machine. I’ve always written on cassette tapes, and the little condenser mikes in the recorder are awesome. You get the drum machine grooving, the six string banjo or electric or acoustic guitar, press record, play the song, then listen back and it sounds like AM radio.

Keith’s won ACM’s, CMA’s, CMT’s, and People’s Choice Awards…but a Grammy is different…a Grammy is hallowed…

The Grammy is a hallowed kind of award, despite the 100-plus categories. I mean, there’s a Grammy for the guy who made the best coffee in a songwriting session now, but the Grammy is still hallowed. It’s a big deal.

Just because Keith Urban is enjoying the fruits of his labor doesn’t mean he still doesn’t enjoy the labor. Although, I have a feeling that he doesn’t consider anything to do with a guitar labor.

Last time I changed my own strings? That was yesterday.

There’s a lot more to this article, so check it out here.

Taylor Swift is totally ‘freaking out’

Taylor Swift London

The Grammy noms are in and country princess Taylor Swift is nominated for 8…Yes…eight…you read it right.  In typical Taylor fashion, according to People.com , she is surprised by all the nominations.

“I started freaking out and jumping up and down,” Swift, 19, tells the Associated Press. “I honestly never would have predicted this, eight nominations – I’m ecstatic, and blown away and so, so thankful.”

In fact, only Beyonce has more Grammy noms than Taylor with 10.

“I started freaking out and jumping up and down,” Swift, 19, tells the Associated Press. “I honestly never would have predicted this, eight nominations – I’m ecstatic, and blown away and so, so thankful.”

It seems all of Taylor’s dreams are coming true…she’d better come up with some new ones soon or she’ll have no reason to keep going.
