Little Big Town & Lee Ann Womack Bring the Holidays Home

Little Big Town

Some of today’s hottest country stars will join members of the Band of the Air Force Reserve along with The Air Force Strings from Washington D.C. to present Holiday Notes From Home—a TV special to air over the Christmas holiday on the Armed Forces Network (AFN). The program is sponsored by the Air Force Reserve Command.

Holiday Notes From Home will be broadcast in 177 counties to over 1.7 million people all around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan along with every military installation overseas and all the ships and submarines at sea. It will also air on Great American Country (GAC).

Country hitmakers Little Big Town and Lee Ann Womack took some time out of their busy schedules to join hosts, chart topping country artist, Clay Walker and Great American Country’s (GAC) Nan Kelley, to give something back at this time of year and deliver this heart-felt holiday tribute, produced specifically for the men and women of our military and their families. This show also included a pre-show performance by southern country/rocker Adam Fisher.

This time of year can be especially difficult for our troops—separated from their families during a season that is all about family and tradition. The show will bring a little bit of “home” to those serving the call of freedom around the world. Christmas carols, the holiday spirit and the newly restored Opry stage decorated for the holidays will hopefully bring military families closer together and help them experience the magic of the season.

“This concert is for all of our troops who are continually deployed overseas, all of their families who are left behind, and for the employers who make such a big difference in those families lives,” said Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner, Jr., Chief of the Air Force Reserve. “If we can give just a little back to all those groups of people, I want to do this each year.”

I just couldn’t believe it, it was unreal,” says Alan. “To see her go through that, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. I’ve been taking care of her since she was 16, but I couldn’t do anything to help her. It was tough.”

Despite the difficulty, Denise pushed through with her faith, family, and Alan to help.

But there were blessings in it,” adds Denise. “For my children to see my faith in a situation like this, I think it made a profound impact on them.”

“This woman right here is never sick,” Alan admits. “I mean, she’s never even taken an aspirin for a headache. I’m the one whining that something’s always wrong with me.

Trace Adkins And Exile “Kiss You All Over”

A few days before Trace Adkins hosted this year’s “American Country Awards,” he added his voice to a classic pop-rock song when he and Exile appeared in concert. They performed Exile’s humongous 1978 hit, “Kiss You All Over.”

Adkins and Exile have recorded a studio version of the song. Cameras from Great American Country, GAC, were in the recording studio during the session. That’s the focus of tonight’s edition of “Hit Exchange” on GAC.

Rascal Flatts Inducted into the Grand Ole Opry

Rascal Flatts was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry family this evening by Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens. Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney also helped celebrate the Opry’s 86th birthday during the Opry’s Birthday Bash celebration which aired live on GAC: Great American Country.

Prior to taking the stage, LeVox said, “it is so humbling to carry the Opry flag. There’s no higher pinnacle.”

DeMarcus added, “one of the titles we’re most proud of is member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Rooney, meanwhile, said he began to reflect on Opry membership after a conversation with his dad earlier in the day. “I remember when I was growing up, I would watch the Grand Ole Opry on TV. He remembers when he was growing up listening to it on the radio. Now here we are in the year 2011 watching and listening online. … We are humbled by this and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us and the Grand Ole Opry. … Tonight is a great platform from which to set sail.”

The group was surprised by a congratulatory video message from President George W. Bush. “We are big fans of Gary, Jay, and Joe Don,” he said, speaking on behalf of himself and former first lady Laura Bush. “We love their music, and we also love their compassion and generosity. Throughout their success, Rascal Flatts have given back to their community and to our country by supporting the Make A Wish Foundation, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and the American Red Cross. I am especially proud of their efforts to honor the men and women of our armed forces, and the heroes who are wounded on the front lines. So thanks for your example of excellence and patriotism. And congratulations as well as a hardy welcome to the Opry.”

“You have witnessed the greatest night of our lives,” LeVox said to the crowd after Dickens had presented the group members with their Opry member awards.

The Opry’s 86th celebration is set to continue through October with performances by Alabama, The Charlie Daniels Band, Oak Ridge Boys, Brad Paisley, Ray Price, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and more. The Grand Ole Opry® is presented by Humana®. Opry performances are held every weekend of the year and on Tuesdays through Dec. 13. To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or visit opry.com.
