’9 to 5′ Shines in it’s Nashville Debut

9 to 5 wasn’t just a movie that made Dolly Parton famous among the non-music scene…It’s now a full-fledged musical that just kick-off it’s national tour in Nashville this past week the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. The show only runs through Sunday, so if you’re in the Nashville area and haven’t managed to catch the show, shame on you!!! Do yourself a favor and get your tickets for tomorrow’s show here.

The cast of this musical shine brightly. Dee Hoty plays Violet Newstead, Diana DeGarmo plays Dolly’s role of Doralee Rhodes, and Judy Bernly is played by Mamie Parris. The musical version of ’9 to 5′ was revamped slightly…it’s definitely edgy, with a little bit of raunchy sprinkled about. After getting over the initial shock of the opening number, we laughed until we just couldn’t laugh anymore, and Diana DeGarmo nails Dolly’s version of Doralee…body and all.

Not only does Dolly Parton narrates the play, but she also is the composer and lyricist. The music is simply fantastic, and the execution of the songs and script is flawless.

A special treat and surprise was after the curtain dropped, Dolly Parton herself came out to talk to the audience; thanking us for coming to the show. She said that she hoped we had fun, and if we did to tell our friends to come and see. If we didn’t have fun, she said…lie so they come anyway. After singing a special reprise of “9 to 5″ Dolly insisted she ‘shut-up’ now cuz she was was sure she was keeping us all from going ‘pee.’ Only Dolly could say pee and it be acceptable.

9 to 5 has many stops across the country coming-up…So, if you can’t make it to a Nashville showing don’t fret. Atlanta is only a few hours away and it’s playing there next.
