Rascal Flatts Recieve CRS Humanitarian Award

The CRS Radio and Artist Humanitarian Awards were handed out today on the opening day of CRS 2012, held February 22-24 in downtown Nashville at the Nashville Convention Center.

Rascal Flatts received the 2012 Artist Humanitarian award for their charitable contributions and humanitarian endeavors throughout their career. In 2010, the group donated $3 million to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Surgery Center. They currently serve as celebrity spokespersons for the national suicide prevention organization, The Jason Foundation, and have been members of the American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet for the past seven years.

The CRB Artist Humanitarian Award was created in 1990 to honor those Country music artists who have exhibited exceptional humanitarian efforts during their career. Past recipients of the annual award have included Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Charlie Daniels and Kenny Rogers, among others.

CRS Day 1: Capitol Records Party

To wrap-up day 1 at CRS, we headed down to The Hard Rock Cafe downtown Nashville for the Capitol Records party. The event treated those in attendance to a rare club performance from some pretty big stars including Darius Rucker, Little Big Town, and Keith Urban.

Capitol newcomer, Walker Hayes, kicked-off the night with his first single, “Pants,” before singing a brand spankin-new song called “Touching Toes.” As always, Walker was great. He performed his newest single “Why Wait for Summer” before opening the stage for Little Big Town. If you haven’t caught Walker Hayes live yet…I’d like to know what in the world you’re waiting for. Visit www.WalkerHayes.com for all the tour information.

Little Big Town sounded FANTASTIC! I’ve never seen them in such a small venue, and they had every hand in the joint clappin to “Little White Church” before singing the song they’d wish they’d written, “Shut Up Train.” Wow! This was one amazing performance! The group ended the night with the title track of their album, “The Reason Why.”

Darius Rucker is always a crowd favorite. With all of the years behind him rockin-out with Hootie and the Blowfish, he already knows how to own a crowd. He performed “Come Back Song,” a funny drinkin tune “One Tequila,” and rowdy-favorite Hank Williams cover “Family Tradition.”

Last to take the stage was a surprise-to-us, Keith Urban. As many of you know, I am a HUGE Keith Urban fan. He’s easy on the eyes and ears, and his music has helped me through some pretty tough things. It was a rare treat to see Keith so up-close and personal in a small venue like the Hard Rock. He proved that the size of the venue doesn’t warrant the size of the performance…Keith sang his new single, “Without You,” “I’m In,” and a cover that is escaping my mind at the moment…Probably cuz I was too busy being mesmorized…floating away by some entirely-to-stellar guitar playin.

You can see all the pictures from the event here.

CRS Day 1: Music City Jam

Every year, CRS (Country Radio Seminar) takes over various venues downtown Nashville. The event brings together artists, labels, media, and radio personel to mingle, share new music, and network.

CMTT has been downtown all week interviewing your favorite artists, getting the scoop on the latest music, and checking out the new artists just recently signed. It’s a crazy and hectic week, but it’ll be worth it because next week we’ll have tons of interviews and pictures to share.

Yesterday was Day 1 of CRS. Country Girl sat down for a chat with Frankie Ballard and Jerrod Niemann. Last night was also the official kick-off of the seminar, The Music City Jam. Blake Shelton headlined and hosted the show sharing the stage with The Band Perry, Laura Bell Bundy, Chris Young, Frankie Ballard, and Luke Bryan.

Prior to Blake taking the stage, The Band Perry was awarded their ACM for Best New Group/Duo and Eric Church was awarded his ACM for Best New Solo Artist.

It was a night to remember, full of covers and what I’m sure were once in a lifetime moments. The Band Perry serenaded the crowd with a stunning acoustic performance of “If I Die Young” (at Blake’s request) only after rocking-out Queen’s “Fat Bottom Girls.” Luke Bryan gave a chill-bump inducing version of George Strait’s “The Chair,” and Laura Bell Bundy performed “Let’s Get it On.”

Blake Shelton obviously owned the stage, performing mostly covers from some classic artists with a few singles of his own like “Old Red,” “Who Are You When I’m Not Lookin,” “Hillbilly Bone,” and “Austin.”

Over all, it was an amazing show, an amazing night, filled with amazing music. You can take a look at all of our pictures here.

The Judds Receive Career Achievement Award at CRS

Tuesday night, during CRS (Country Radio Seminar) the Judds were honored with the 2011 career achievement award. The duo started-out strong in 1983, scoring 14 no. 1 singles before illness forced Naomi to retire and Wynonna to go solo.

“Our whole lives have been about friendships,” said Naomi, who noted she was “38 years old with two scared kids” when she came to RCA in 1983. That year also marked the release of the Judds first single, “Had a Dream (For the Heart).”

“I’ve known about everybody in this room since I was 18 years old,” said Wynonna.

“You all literally allowed her to fulfill her destiny,” Naomi chimed in.

“One of my goals this year,” continued Wynonna, who recorded and toured as a solo act after Naomi’s first retirement, “is to get back on country radio.”
