CMT ONE COUNTRY continues its commitment to supporting artists’ causes at the 2012 CMT Music Awards by making donations on behalf of the winners to the charity of their choice. Since starting this initiative in 2008, CMT ONE COUNTRY has donated over $150,000 on behalf of winners to their selected charities. The 2012 CMT Music Awards mark the 11th anniversary of the awards show and will air LIVE from Nashville on Wednesday, June 6th on CMT and CMT.com.

After surviving breast cancer, Sheryl Crow talks to Ladies’ Home Journal about redefining what matters most in her life, from her kids to her relationships.

Sheryl is also spokesperson for CMT’s pro-social initiative, CMT One Country , in conjunction with the 2011 CMT Music Awards. As part of her role, she also talks about her good works and volunteering spirit, including her work with CMT One Country partner Feeding America.

“Country music has an incredibly loyal fan base,” Crow says in the cover story. “We want to encourage people to get involved not only where they live, but where they live emotionally, too.”

She also talks about her move from Los Angeles to Tennessee saying, “After I learned I had cancer, my life took on such a sense of urgency. I knew my life was never going to look or feel the way it was before. Having a life-threatening illness, even though it wasn’t going to threaten my life made me reassess everything.”

CMT will be making a $40,000 donation to the local affiliate of CMT ONE COUNTRY non-profit partner, Feeding America, to assist children who suffer hunger insecurity. The donation will provide 160,000 meals for over 400 school-aged children during the entire 2010-2011 school year through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee’s BackPack Program, which will in turn help children whose families’ have been affected by the recent flood. This donation will be in lieu of the traditional celebrity gift bags. Trisha Yearwood will serve as a spokesperson for this initiative on the 2010 CMT Music Awards red carpet as well as at an event marking this donation on Thursday, June 10.

“I am proud of CMT for coming up with a wonderful way to contribute to the Nashville community of flood victims,“ said Yearwood. “Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee does so much to help our community on a daily basis. It’s a great partnership and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
“Nashville is home to CMT and through CMT ONE COUNTRY, we are fortunate to be able to honor the artists who treasure this community with this donation to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Middle Tennessee,” says Lucia Folk, senior director of public affairs, CMT. “Recovering from the recent floods is something that has hit close to home for the country music industry and we hope that our contribution can help the ongoing rebuilding efforts.”
“We have distributed more than 450,000 meals since the flooding recovery began in Middle Tennessee,” said Jaynee Day, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. “Because of this increased demand, continued support like that of CMT ONE COUNTRY’s is critical to fulfill our mission. This donation will help feed at risk children through our BackPack program as we continue to address childhood hunger in our community.”

CMT ONE COUNTRY will present this donation, along with backpacks signed by celebrities from the CMT AWARDS for auction, to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Middle Tennessee at an event on Thursday, June 10 attended by presenters Trisha Yearwood and Paula Deen.

Normally, artists recieve a special goodie-bag at the CMT Awards show…Well, this year, CMT is donating $20,000 to CMT One Country to help feed America.  CMT will be feeding 130 local school children thru the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

CMT ONE COUNTRY is thrilled to participate in the 2009 CMT MUSIC AWARDS by honoring the artists with a donation on their behalf to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Middle Tennessee,” says Lucia Folk, director of public affairs, CMT. “Taking something that is normally an extravagant gift and turning it into one that makes a direct impact to people in need is what CMT ONE COUNTRY is all about, especially in these tight economic times.”

We are so excited that Dierks Bentley is taking his phenomenal charity event, Miles & Music for Kids, on the road this year across the country thanks to CMT.com and CMT ONE Country….Dierks’ annual motorcycle ride and jam session will kick off in Nashville, TN on Sunday, October 11th at Riverfront Park.  Throughout 2009/2010 the event will ride through Nashville, Phoenix, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, and Chicago.  All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the area of the event. 

This is always an amazing event and a terrific show.  Dierks has a way of luring surprise guests on stage to perform.  Each year it gets bigger and better.  We recommend you go.  You can see pictures from last years event on our flickr.
