Tracy Lawrence 5th Annual “Mission Possible” Turkey Fry a Huge Success

Tracy Lawrence, some famous Music City friends, MTSU students, local media and volunteers from the Nashville Rescue Mission joined together Tuesday, November 23, 2010 to donate their time at the 5th Annual Tracy Lawrence Mission Possible.

Held for the benefit of the Nashville Rescue Mission, the philanthropic group—comprised of over 100 volunteers—fried-up turkeys for the meal kitchen’s Thanksgiving dinner and Wilson County’s homeless.

Some of Music City’s biggest and brightest names gathered to cook and visit with volunteers and fans. Joining the Master of Ceremonies, Tracy Lawrence, in the “group fry” were his friends in music and entertainment: Brad Arnold (Three Doors Down,) GAC’s Suzanne Alexander, Bo Bice, Burns & Poe, Chelsea Field, Matt Gary, LoCash Cowboys, Lathan Moore, Lorrie Morgan, Danielle Peck, Matt Kennon, The Roys, radio personalities Big D & Bubba and the Titans Cheerleaders.

“I continue to be amazed at how this event has not only grown in size, but grown to become personal to me and the individuals involved,” Tracy Lawrence shares. “I’ve actually become acquainted with some of the folks who have graduated from the program at the Mission; it’s overwhelming to experience their growth. I am moved by how much this little gesture once a year means to them. I wish to extend my genuine ‘thanks’ to all of my friends, the sponsors, media and our community for your help—from the bottom of my heart.”

Although the Mission parking lot was drenched by morning rains, the weather did not dampen the spirit of the event. Generous donations of turkeys, clothing and cash were collected throughout the day; the final fowl figure tallied at just under 800 birds collected and 411 turkeys cooked at 4:30 PM yesterday afternoon. In addition to feeding those individuals in need at the Nashville Rescue Mission over the next few days, Lawrence and his family will also hand-deliver 125 cooked turkeys to a tent city of homeless located not far from his home in Wilson County. The mission’s overall goal is to collect 1000 gobblers before the Thanksgiving week comes to a close; contributions continue to be welcomed and are appreciated.

Enjoy the Ride With Chelsea Field’s Bouncy New Tune

Chelsea Field – Things I Should’ve Said from Jon Walker on Vimeo.

If you like your country with a little pop and sung by a big, beautiful voice that’s as sweet as a July watermelon, give Chelsea Field’s “Things I Should Have Said” a spin.

The catchy little ear candy is a nice change from the male-dominated summer songs already saturating the airways this spring. Chelsea has a strong, memorable voice and the mid tempo tune bounces along like a bee goes from flower to flower, just slowing down every now and then to dive down deep for a little nibble of something sweet.

Musically and vocally, the tune leans more toward late ’70s pop than traditional country — you could almost hear Olivia Newton-John singing this. But if the Eagles, The Band Perry, George Strait and Gloriana can all be played on the same radio or Pandora station, this certainly fits right into the ever-expanding definition of “country” music.

Get to Know the Big Talent and Big Voice of Chelsea Field

Chelsea Field. Write that name down. You’re going to hear her on the radio soon and ask yourself, “Who was that? I love that song!” That song might be “Last Goodbye,” where she sings about getting over the one who got away – and being quite happy about it.

Chelsea’s strong voice is a perfect fit for the tale of a strong woman happily moving on. A bit like Miranda Lambert but without the carnage. Love it.

She’s already opened Jason Aldean, Billy Currington, Phil Vassar, Dierks Bentley, Big & Rich and Miranda Lambert (that must have been some girl-power show!) and clearly her voice is big enough to fill any stage. “Breathing” and “Just Another Day” are also vocal showcases. The first a sweet ballad, the second more up tempo, and both feature soaring vocals that would make Faith Hill and Martina McBride proud. Chelsea manages both with ease. This woman can sing.

Listening to her songs, many of which she wrote or co-wrote, it’s clear than Chelsea is a strong, confident, independent woman. There are no “poor me” songs here; no whining allowed in this collection! As she sings in “Just Another Day” – a song about the world going on while you experience a personal tragedy — “Staring in my parents’ eyes, it hit me all at once that I’m going to be OK.” And you believe she will be. That’s the spirit!

The rest of the songs available at www.myspace.com/chelseafieldfan definitely showcase Chelsea’s versatility but I wouldn’t say they have the makings of a good country music CD. “REO” sounds too much like Julianne Hough’s “That Song in My Head.” Meant to be fun, it’s more derivative and forgettable.

Then there’s “Touch the Sky,” of which I can only ask, “What the heck?” It’s a dance mix that sounds like Lady Gaga synth-pop or maybe even an ABBA record, not a cut on a country CD. Yikes! Get rid of it! As a friend once told me, music (and fashion) should be a statement, not a question. But even if the song choice is questionable, her performance is spot-on.

Look out for Chelsea Field. She’ll be on your radio soon!   www.chelseafieldofficial.com
