The Roys - Special Olympics2

On April 10th, golfers hit the course with their favorite sports and music celebrities raising over $32,000 during the inaugural 2012 Christmas 4 Kids Celebrity Golf Tournament Presented By: PREVOST at Pine Creek Golf Course in Mount Juliet, TN. This year’s co-hosts Tennessee Titans Placekicker, Rob Bironas and 2011 ICM “Bluegrass Artist of the Year,” The Roys and their fellow teammates, artists, and musicians including Brett Kern, Troy Gentry, Colin McCarthy, Buddy Jewell, Joe Diffie, Craig Stevens, Tracy Lawrence, Tim Shaw, Keith Burns and Doyle Lawson enjoyed a day of fun that will give Middle Tennessee children the chance to experience the gift of giving during the Christmas season. “The 2012 Christmas 4 Kids Celebrity Golf Tournament Presented By: PREVOST was a hit for everyone involved,” said Debbie Lamberson. “We raised over $32,000 that will help local children experience the gift of giving this Christmas. I am truly excited to see the look on every one of the children’s faces this December as they shop for their friends and family.”

“Elaine and I have been supporters of Christmas 4 Kids for several years now, but this is our first time co-hosting an event for the organization,” said Lee Roy of The Roys. “We are grateful to all the golfers who participated knowing the money raised will give children the opportunity to buy Christmas presents for their friends and family.”

This year the course featured themed holes and challenges including a Hole-In-One prize, a Ball in Chip Challenge, a Las Vegas Trip Hole, and Closest to the Pin Challenge where participants competed for the chance to win a $25,000 cash prize, a jar of Popcorn Sutton’s Tennessee White Whiskey, a $1,000 cash prize, and a FREE Zoom teeth whitening experience. After the tournament the participants enjoyed a live performance by several of the celebrities taking part in the event including The Roys, Tracy Lawrence, Troy Gentry, Nathan Douglas, and Eric Lee Beddingfield. During a live auction, hands were flying for the chance to win the lyrics to “Devil Went Down to Georgia” handwritten by Charlie Daniels himself, a guitar signed by the Tennessee Titans and the opportunity to see Montgomery Gentry in concert.

In addition to the golf tournament Christmas 4 Kids features other events throughout the year including the annual Charlie Daniels & Friends Concert in November and the Tour Bus show in December. City of Dreams – Artists For Tennessee Flood Relief Video

In May 2010, Nashville and the state of Tennessee were devastated by historic flooding that caused over $1 billion in damage and killed more than 30 people.

Two weeks later, over 40 Nashville artists and musicians joined together with a production/engineering team and film crew to record the flood relief song City of Dreams. All participants and facilities donated their services and all proceeds from the song will benefit the Red Cross.

The video features Victoria Banks, Kate and Kacey, Mallory Hope, Buddy Jewel, Jesse Lee, Pam Tillis, Sarah Darling and many more.

Country Music Comes Together to Benefit Mel McDaniel

Friends and fellow country artists of Grand Ole Opry member Mel McDaniel have joined forces deliver a music-filled, star-laced benefit concert and auction Thursday, Aug. 13, for the ailing singer.

McDaniel was hospitalized July 6 following a mid-June heart attack and placed in a medically induced coma by doctors. On July 22, an Opry spokeswoman reported that the Oklahoma-born singer, whose hits include “Stand Up,” “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On” and “Louisiana Saturday Night,” was being released to a rehabilitative center for continuing care.

In a collective effort to assist McDaniel and wife Peggy with their mounting medical costs, members of the Nashville country-music community have organized a 6-10 p.m. concert and silent auction at the famed Nashville Palace, 2611 McGavock Pike, with proceeds benefiting singer-songwriter McDaniel.

Broadcast veteran Keith Bilbrey reportedly is set to emcee the event, which will feature guest performances by some of McDaniel’s Opry family, including Little Jimmy Dickens, Jean Shepherd and Jim Ed Brown, as well as Rick Blaylock, Alison Clements, Jared Rogers, Tommy Cash, Buddy Jewel, David Ball, Guy Gilcrest, T-Bell, Jet Jurgensmeyer, Helen Cornelius, Ken Peletier, Ricky Lynn Gregg, Jimmy Fortune, T. Graham Brown, Billy Are, Hank Beach, Charlie Louvin, Don Wayne, Jack Greene, Jimmy C. Newman, Larry Paxton and Candi Apple Red, among others. McDaniel’s band, Oklahoma Wind, will provide backing music for the lineup.

“Mel and his wife are such dear people and friends to so many,” said InLight Records artist and volunteer performer Tommy Cash. “We hope to have a great turnout for this event and make some great music along the way. Our prayers and thoughts are with the McDaniel family at this difficult time.”

Tickets to the Aug. 13 benefit concert/auction, available at the door only, are $10 per person. (No presale tickets available for this event.) For additional admission or ticket information, please contact the venue at 615-889-1540 or visit www.nashvillepalace.net.
