Farm Aid Adds More Artists to 2011 Concert Lineup

Farm Aid announced an array of artists who will join the musical lineup for its 2011 concert, scheduled for August 13 at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.

Jason Mraz, Jamey Johnson, Jakob Dylan, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Will Dailey & the Rivals, Robert Francis, Pegi Young & the Survivors, Rebecca Pidgeon, Billy Joe Shaver and John Trudell will all join Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews at Farm Aid 2011.

“Farm Aid is a movement inspired not only by the passion of Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews, but also by the more than 400 artists who have donated their performances at our shows over the years,” said Carolyn Mugar, executive director of Farm Aid. “This year, we are thrilled to welcome back several familiar faces to the Farm Aid stage as well as some first-timers for what is sure to be a remarkable day of music, food and inspiration.”

The all-day festival will be a celebration of music, family farmers and good food and will again feature HOMEGROWN concessions – family farm-identified, local and organic foods. Farm Aid’s HOMEGROWN Village will showcase hands-on activities that give concertgoers a chance to meet farmers, get their hands dirty and learn how family farmers are protecting our land and water, as well as connecting us to our roots.

Tickets for Farm Aid 2011 are available by phone at 1-800-745-3000, in person at the LIVESTRONG Sporting Park box office, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets for Farm Aid 2011 are $29 for general admission; $39, $69 and $99 for reserved seats; and $149 for a limited number of premium seats. Farm Aid – On TV, Internet

Gretchen Wilson is joining the Farm Air line up. She’s been added to the bill for the all-day event in the outskirts of St. Louis. So has Ryan Bingham. For the last few weeks, Willie Nelson and crew have been adding performers. So far they include Nelson, of course, along with Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds, Jason Mraz, Wilco, Jamey Johnson, Phosphorescent, Billy Joe Shaver and many others. The concert is at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

There are other ways to catch Farm Aid if you can’t be there in person on Sunday. The concert will be shown live on DirecTV on The 101 Network. DirecTV, by the way, is pledging to match all of its customer donations up to $50,000 made between September 1 and October 31. Farm Aid also will be webcast and will stream live at www.FarmAid.org. Whether you watch on satellite or on the Internet, it’ll start at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Billy Joe Shaver Indicted

Get your mug shot folder out and ready:

Country star Billy Joe Shaver has been indicted on aggravated assault and weapons charges in Texas for his part in a shooting incident in Lorena last year.

The 69-year-old singer/songwriter is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a handgun by a licensed holder on a licensed premises – both felonies.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit filed last year by an eyewitness, Shaver followed Billy Coker out of Papa Joe’s Texas Saloon, asked, “Where do you want it?” and then shot his victim in the face.

Coker insists the shooting was unprovoked, but Shaver maintains Coker was drunk and aggressive.

Now this is what good country songs are made of!
