Musicians Hall Of Fame And Museum’s Fate Not Certain

The founder of a downtown Nashville museum dedicated to musicians says the city isn’t offering enough money for his property. Joe Chambers opened the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2006. A year later, he learned it stands in the way of plans for the city’s convention center. The Tennessean reports that project architects had considered placing the museum inside the new convention center. But instead, the city has started legal proceedings to seize Chambers’ property. Chambers says the museum property is worth about twice the $4.8 million the city is offering. About a month ago the museum inducted its latest group of musicians: Chet Atkins, Billy Cox, Dick Dale, Charlie Daniels, Fred Foster, Victor Feldman, Paul Riser and the band Toto.

Musicians Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

What an honor it was to be invited to cover the Musicians Hall of Fame Awards on Monday evening.   I think sometimes fans get caught up in the fame, money and outward appearance of who an artist is and we forget that the reason that these artists got started was because of their love for the music.   Not only can our favorites artists sing and entertain but the “great ones” are also amazing musicians.

The Musicians Hall of Fame is where we can go to honor those great musicians and on Monday night the 8 new inductees were overwhelmed with gratitude and humbled to be nominated by their peers.

Paul Riser, Fred Foster, Chet Atkins, Billy Cox, Dick Dale, Charlie Daniels, Victor Feldman and Toto were the nights honorees.

Our evening started out at the official Medallion Ceremony.  Each inductee received their medallion and a leather coat to celebrate their space in the Musicians Hall of Fame.  For those who were unable to attend, family and friends were gracious and accepted on their behalf.

The highlight of my evening was having the chance to sit down with Charlie Daniels and ask him what this evening means to him.

After the medallions were handed out and the leather coats placed on their hangers it was showtime.  The Nashville Symphony was packed full of music lovers who knew that they were in for a night of amazing musicianship.

As each new inductee accepted their award they were able to speak and the message of the evening was very clear.  That our children are the future of our music and it is our responsibility to make sure that it is handled with care and that our children learn to appreciate it and help it evolve.

The evening was filled with Motown, beach music, guitar riffs that were unmatched and musical talent that you don’t find in just any city in the world.

Here is Charlie Daniels performing “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.

Closing the evening out and putting on a once in a lifetime performance was Toto and Rascal Flatts.

The six members of Toto received their award and then treated guests to some of their greatest hits; Africa, I’ll Be Over You and Rosanna. Here is the full audio from their performance.

The evening was filled with an amazing amount of respect, talent and knowing that music as a whole is what makes the world go round.
