Keith Urban Takes Arena Break at The House of Blues

Earlier this week, Keith Urban and his fellow “American Idol” judges were in New Orleans scouting talent, when Keith Keith got a hankerin’ to play. Instead of the usual arenas and stadiums, a small intimate venue provided the backdrop for a night many fans won’t forget. With the help of a local radio station, the super star gave away 350 free tickets to The Parish at House of Blues. According to The Times-Picayune newspaper, Keith ran his 75 minute set with the energy of an arena show, but the intimacy of a dive-bar gig…inviting an audience member on stage to perform “We Were Us” with him.

“This could work very well, very averagely or be a complete disaster,” Urban said by way of disclaimer. “I’m happy either way.”

Luckily for all involved, Juliet Kalifeh from Brisbane is an aspiring singer, and didn’t disappoint. The 14-song set included all his hits along with an arena-worthy encore.

I just hope the fans truly appreciate seeing a performer such as Keith Urban in such a small intimate venue. There’s nothing like it.

Could the next American Idol have been found in Nashville?? It’s a possibility. Either way, this kid is never gonna have another slow dance live up to the one he had with Jennifer Lopez while being serenaded by Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban.

“Jennifer, Keith, Harry and Ryan are the very best in the business at what they do, and I’m thrilled that they are returning to American Idol for another season,” said David Hill, senior exec vp, 21st Century Fox. “Each brings unique qualities and expertise to the team, but they all share the same passion for helping undiscovered singers achieve the American dream.”

However, “American Idol” will most likely see a format change in the upcoming season, switching from a two-times a week format to just a single day in order to recover recent ratings drops.

American Idol

“American Idol” is willing to pay big money for standing by the side of an eventual winner. Season 14 has added the American Idol True Believer Award and it will allow contestants who make it past a certain point each to designate one person who supported them above all else. That person could be the winning contestant’s relative, friend, mentor, co-worker, or a loved one who has helped them to achieve their dreams just by believing in them.

“True Believer.” Then, should that contestant win, their “true believer will also walk away with the $50,000 award, simply for believing someone they cared about could make it on the show. In case the winning contestant doesn’t choose a “True Believer,” the money will instead be donated to a charity chosen by “American Idol.”

Ryan Seacrest will be back to continue his hosting duties next year. Additionally, all three judges – Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick, Jr. – are expected to return. So far, no official announcement from “American Idol” showrunners has surfaced.
