CMTT Exclusive: 10 Quick Quirky Questions with Adam Gregory

Adam Gregory

Adam Gregory is set to release his new single and six-song album, Different Places, in the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 28.

The first single, “High On You,” ships to Country radio the same day Different Places is released on Feb. 28. Gregory co-wrote four of the six songs on the album, including the “High On You” single.

Gregory, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and a Nashville resident since 2006, had been writing and recording new material for Different Places over the last 12 months.

“I’m really excited for my new music to finally come out and give people a taste of what I’ve been working on for the last year or so,” says Gregory.  “I had considerable input in terms of the songwriting and song selection for this project, and I think the writing is a little more mature, a little more personal than my last project.”

Internationally acclaimed producer Mark Moffatt produced Different Places at Funhouse Studios and Big Dog Studios in Nashville.

Different Places is a joint release through Calusa Entertainment/GMV Nashville.  It will be available at GMVNashville.com, iTunes, Amazon.com and all major online digital retailers on Feb. 28.  Visit www.AdamGregory.com for more information.

10 Quick Quirky Questions with Adam Gregory

Q:  Video games or books?
A:  Well if I had to choose between the two, I would probably say Video Games. Not so much Xbox or anything along those lines, more so games on my iPhone. I know it may seem corny but I have this one game on my phone that I’ve been addicted to lately called “Temple Run”. It draws you in, haha.

Q:  What’s the most personal song you’ve ever written? Did it make it on your album?
A:  There are a lot of personal songs that I’ve written throughout my career that have made it on my albums, but there are some that I’ve written in my catalog that I haven’t even recorded yet or may not ever record. I can’t possibly record everything, I would have the world’s longest album.

Q:  If you could duet with any artist of a different genre, who would it be?
A:  Well I’ve always liked listening to Bryan Adams. He is one artist in my opinion that doesn’t put out a bad song. In the music industry it’s common to hear industry people say, ” You just need that one hit song to make it.” Well if that’s the case, Bryan Adams is one artist that has them all!

Q:  Do you collect anything? If yes, what do you collect?
A: My wife would say that I collect junk, mostly empty boxes that I haven’t yet thrown away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hoarder… I just have a hard time parting with things, haha.

Q:  Do you have any habits you wish you could break?
A: Yeah, my wife tells me that I annoyingly flick my nails out of habit. I don’t even know that I’m doing it really, it must be a twitch that I have, ha

Q:  Do you have any hidden talents we don’t know about?
A: mmm, let me think.. I’m kinda creative hence the musician in me. I guess you could say my creativity expands into drawing a little bit. It might more or less be something that has been passed down through the gene pool, because my Grandpa is a really good artist (drawing, painting, building) and so are some of my other relatives. I’m not so much the handyman per say, like my dad or my wife’s step dad, but I’m ok at drawing.

Q:  What is your is your favorite song to belt out at the bar? In the car? At karaoke?
A: Well if I’m cruising down the road, I normally sing to whatever is on the radio. I’m pretty much a walking juke box. I don’t normally do Karaoke, but the few times that I have I usually ask them to put on a Garth song or a George song. I would sing some Vince Gill songs also, but the keys are always too high.

Q:  Finish this sentence: Ten years from now I will be…..
A: Playing sold out Arena’s… That would be sweet! Hoping to be recognized for my talents. It’s always good to dream BIG. I was told one time to act as though it’s already happened, as though you are living it or have lived it. It’s part of staying positive in your mind as you follow your dreams.

Q:  What is the hardest obstacle you have had to overcome?
A: When I was still in school (Junior High and High School) I was touring more times than not and because of that the teachers had to pile on the homework, This wasn’t always the easiest thing for me because there was always so much going on out on the road, with visiting radio stations and doing signings at different places. By the end of the day I was super wiped out and I would still have to bring myself to having enough energy to do my school work. Thankfully, my mom and dad were always there if I needed help on a question, and my guitar player at the time was a substitute teacher as well so he would offer his tips and advice whenever needed.

Q: If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would say to them?
A: I’m sure I’m not alone when I say this, but I’ve always thought it would’ve been cool to meet the King of Rock n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley. I’ve been to Graceland probably four or five times now and have walked through his mansion. To see all he’s accomplished in the span of his career allows an artist like myself to dream big.
