Tim McGraw’s Emotional Traffic Debuts at #1!

Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw’s 11th studio album Emotional Traffic debuted at No. one this week on the Billboard Country Chart, making it his 13th career No. one debut.

“The most beautiful thing about this No. one debut, over the others, is that it was driven by the fans and their eagerness to finally have this music in their hands,” said McGraw. “The fans don’t care about the business side of things…they just want the artists they follow to keep putting out great songs, and I think we have delivered some of the best songs of my career on Emotional Traffic. The reaction to the album makes me even more excited to get back on the road this summer on the ‘Brothers of the Sun’ tour.”

This June, McGraw will kick off what is anticipated to be the biggest stadium tour in country music history with old friend Kenny Chesney.  The ‘Brothers of the Sun’ Tour will reunite McGraw and Chesney for the first time in 10 years.  The 20-city tour kicks off on June 2 in Tampa and will hit the nation’s biggest stadiums through August.

Next up on McGraw’s schedule is an Australian arena tour with wife Faith Hill.  For more information and a full list of tour dates, visit http://www.timmcgraw.com.

Lionel Richie’s ‘Tuskegee’ a Star-Studded Attraction

thumb_lionel_richie

Music icon Lionel Richie will release Tuskegee, a collection of 13 of his international hits recorded with some of the biggest names in country music, on March 27th.

His duet partners on Tuskegee include Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington and Little Big Town. On this worldwide, multi-genre album, Richie is also joined by the likes of such superstars as Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

In addition, the Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions will tape an all-star concert special, Lionel Richie and Friends “In concert” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 2nd. The show will air at a later date on the CBS Television Network. Some of his greatest hits will be performed by Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Rogers and many more.

“Tuskegee is where it all began, the place where I felt that everything was available and possible,” he says. “It’s where I learned about life and love and the power of music, and the place I built a musical foundation that knows no genres or boundaries.

“Doing this album was coming back to the beginning, back to basics, back to home,” he says. “The part of it I love the most is that the journey has been one of discovering myself. By the time I got back to Nashville, I clearly knew that the roots of my songwriting, my storytelling, were from the South.”

It’s also been a process of rediscovering the hits that have served as the soundtrack of the lives of generations around the world.

“Every Lionel Richie song that I can think of I had a personal experience with – high school homecomings, proms, you name it,” says Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, who duets on “Dancin’ On the Ceiling.” “Lionel was always playing in my house. His music always said what we felt and couldn’t express.”

Once again, Richie is following his songs as they take him back to country, where they have been welcomed for more than two decades. Conway Twitty recorded “Three Times a Lady,” Kenny Rogers famously sang “Lady” and Alabama recorded “Deep River Woman.” Artists such as Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts perform his songs in their shows. He has performed on the Country Music Association Awards three times, and his 2011 performance receive two standing ovations and was recognized as the highlight of the evening.

“When I did the CMAs and the room was singing along with me, it was really more like a family reunion than it was a concert or show,” he says. “It was just great validation to know that the music was accepted like it was.”

These innovative musical interpretations have given new meaning to his songs while serving as a powerful reminder of the timelessness of his impressive body of work. He asked the other singers to select the songs and ignore his original version and instead perform the song as if it were their own. “I wanted it the way they would do it in their show, which means I captured their essence. You make the song a Willie Nelson song. You make the song a Rascal Flatts song.

“It’s special to the point where it sounds new again, so I’m excited just as the writer, as the original parent of this child. I’m excited to see another generation embrace the music.”

Richie says recording Tuskegee was perhaps the most fun he’s ever had in the studio.

“Tuskegee is going to be one of the most special albums I’ve ever done in my life. This is something that’s going to be so special forever because it’s a moment in time when these artists all got together and celebrated some music,” he says. “What started out as a collaboration of a group of very talented, very successful artists ended up growing into brand new, very good friends.”

Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee Track-Listing:
1. “You Are” with Blake Shelton
2. “Say You, Say Me” with Jason Aldean
3. “Stuck On You” with Darius Rucker
4. “Deep River Woman” with Little Big Town
5. “My Love” with Kenny Chesney
6. “Dancing On The Ceiling” with Rascal Flatts
7. “Hello” with Jennifer Nettles

10. “Just For You” with Billy Currington
11. “Lady” with Kenny Rogers

Album Review: Tim McGraw’s ‘Emotional Traffic’

Tim McGraw- Emotional Traffic

It’s obvious why Tim McGraw was frustrated with Curb Records for not releasing his Emotional Traffic album in a timely fashion….It’s fantasic. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of Tim’s music the past couple of years…I loved everything from “Don’t Take the Girl” to “Red Rag Top” and everything in between…but then suddenly it seemed Tim wasn’t speakin my language anymore. Suddenly, this song comes on the radio that I just can’t get outta my head. Let’s just say, “Felt Good on My Lips” did exactly as it claimed. So, needless to say, I was eagerly awaiting more of the same from Tim.

Finally, my wait is over. Emotional Traffic is truly a masterpiece. I haven’t seen Tim live in many years, but I can vividly picture each song from the album being belted out by an arena full of people.

“Halo” is a striking start to the twelve song album. Haunting, desperate, and extremely well produced. I found myself singing a long before the song ever finished. It’s a favorite off the album, and I’m hoping it makes the cut as a single.

Even though the album isn’t all happy-go-lucky in it’s lyrics…It sure made me happy listening to it. “One Part, Two Part” is anything but a feel-good love song, but it left me feeling good and Tim’s wife, Faith Hill, sounded great singing harmony.

Stand-out songs like “Only Human,” “Touchdown Jesus,” “Better Than I Use to Be,” and “I Will Not Fall Down” inspire and shed rays of hope and faith. Each one of these songs gave me mental images of those inspirational posters they use to sell at the mall.

I still love “Felt Good On My Lips” for it’s catchy phrasing and funky grove, but “Hey Now” has the same hip-swinging effect.

Emotional Traffic is just that….not a traffic jam of emotional wreckage, but instead a heavy flow of consistently moving traffic evoking emotions. Sure, it’s lacking a little horn-honking road rage, but it keeps the driver turning the music up and singing along.

You can purchase Emotional Traffic here.

Tim McGraw Strikes Gold on Eve of Newest Album Release

Tim McGraw- Emotional Traffic

Tim McGraw adds yet another awards plaque to his extensive trophy wall with the announcement that his most recent #1 single Felt Good On My Lips has struck digital download gold on the sales front.

The good news comes on the countdown to McGraw’s much anticipated new studio album, Emotional Traffic, being released by Curb Records tomorrow. Felt Good On My Lips is included in the new package.

The song reached #1 for McGraw on the country charts in January 2011 and stayed at the pinnacle for three consecutive weeks. It also scored well on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. A collaborative creative effort from songwriters Brett Beavers, Jim Beavers and Brett and Brad Warren, Felt Good On My Lips was produced by Tim McGraw and Byron Gallimore.

The good news of new gold for McGraw highlights a major January return to high visibility in the marketplace. The January 24th release of Emotional Traffic has been preceded on the Curb release schedule by four digital single releases from the new package by the label.
The release of Emotional Traffic also serves as a fresh reminder of the strength of the unique superstar presence McGraw has carved in the industry since his 1994 breakout with the #1 single Don’t Take The Girl.—a presence that was reflected in Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems 2010 proclamation of Tim McGraw as “Artist of the Decade” (2000-2010).

On the heels of the release of Emotional Traffic, McGraw’s legions of fans hoping to catch their favorite artist in concert will potentially be striking more gold this summer. In June, McGraw will join Kenny Chesney on the “Brothers of the Sun Tour.” The coast-to-coast large arena concert schedule will hit more than 20 major market venues between June and August. Markets already confirmed include Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Nashville, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Anaheim, and Washington, DC.
