Charlie Daniels to Celebrate 75th Birthday at Grand Ole Opry

The Grand Ole Opry® presented by Humana® will throw a 75th birthday party for Opry member and country music/Southern rock stalwart Charlie Daniels during its two shows Sat., Oct. 29. Among those scheduled to participate in the birthday shows in addition to the guest of honor are Opry member Clint Black plus special guests The Grascals, Lee Greenwood, Tanya Tucker, and more.

Daniels, who will turn 75 on Oct. 28, became a Grand Ole Opry member in 2008. During his 50+ year career, he has scored hits on rock, country, pop, and Christian charts. He has received numerous awards from the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, the Gospel Music Association, and has won a Grammy®. Born in Wilmington, NC, Daniels was raised on a musical diet that included Pentecostal gospel, local bluegrass bands, rhythm & blues, and country music. His signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” topped both the country and pop charts, bringing him international acclaim. His volunteer spirit, support of American troops and down-to-earth philosophy have solidified his reputation as a true American patriot.

“Charlie is without a doubt one of the greatest all-around entertainers to have ever hit the Opry stage,” said Pete Fisher, Opry vice president and general manager. “When the night calls for him to perform crowd favorites and to bring some of his best friends along for a milestone birthday celebration, you know we’re in for two unforgettable shows.”

In honor of the Charlie Daniels salute, the Gaylord Opryland® Resort is offering 20% off its Oct. 29 “Night at the Opry” package including preferred seating Opry tickets and accommodations at the resort. Guests should mention code GOOCD75 when making a reservation in order to activate the discount. To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or visit opry.com.

The Grascals Go Mayberry

The Grascals pay homage to one of the most beloved and enduring shows in television history with Dance Til Your Stockings Are Hot and Ravelin’: A Tribute The The Music of The Andy Griffith Show). In stores June 7th on BluGrascal Records/Time Life Records, Dance finds the Grammy-nominated band rendering tracks like “Boil Them Cabbage Down,” Ol’ Joe Clark,” and the irrepressible “Mayberry’s Finest Theme.” The group was so caught up in the spirit of the show that they recorded a brand new, original song, “Boy, Giraffes Are Selfish,” based on a favorite line from one of the episodes.

The music featured on The Andy Griffith Show held a mirror to the folksy, fun stories and characters of the iconic series. Thoughtful, sincere and with a dash of humor, their message always rooted itself in doing the right thing and upholding Mayberry’s small-town values. “The Andy Griffith Show had a moral lesson that every human being should live by,” vocalist / guitarist Terry Eldredge comments, “It’s an honor and privilege to be associated with the best TV show ever made. It was – and still is – awesome family entertainment.”

The Grascals are currently in the midst of an extensive north-American tour. Additional information and tour dates can be found at www.grascals.com.  Listen up on iTunes: http://bit.ly/060711DANCE
