Open for Taylor Swift at the Capital Hoedown!

Taylor Swift

Following the hugely successful first year of Capital Hoedown Showdown, OurStage.com and Capital Hoedown, Canada’s biggest country music festival, are teaming up for another year to offer one undiscovered country artist the chance to perform on the same stage as Taylor Swift at Capital Hoedown 2012. The three-day festival takes place in Ottawa, Ontario from August 10th-12th.

Capital Hoedown Showdown 2011 garnered over 192,000 judging battles for 101 Canadian artists. With that overwhelming popularity, this year’s competition will be open to country artists in both Canada and the U.S. The winner will play on Saturday, August 11th, the same day Taylor Swift performs for her only scheduled North American appearance in 2012. Anyone interested in entering or judging can go to http://www.ourstage.com/prizes/9005.

“Capital Hoedown Showdown is a fun, friendly competition giving aspiring country artists the chance to play at Canada’s biggest country music festival,” said Denis Benoit, President and CEO of Concert International Inc. “Last year’s winner, WYATT, received international exposure for their participation and they had the privilege to perform on the same stage as Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood.”

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Capital Hoedown 2012 again following the great success of last year’s competition,” said Ben Campbell, CEO of OurStage.com. “Now our U.S. members will also have the opportunity to compete for the chance to perform in front of thousands and share the stage with some of country’s top stars.”

Bands can submit original country music from now through June 25th by going to OurStage.com and signing up to enter the competition. Judging will take place on the site starting May 17th. At the end of Round 1 judging on July 2nd, the top 100 entries will move forward to Round 2 – the semi-finals. OurStage.com members can continue judging until July 16th, when the top 40 ranked entries move on to Round 3.

The grand prize winner, chosen from the top 40 ranked artists in the competition, will be selected by a final judging panel based on the following criteria: (I) presentation; (II) originality and creativity; (III) melody, vocal ability and music; (IV) lyrics; and (V) entertainment value.

Complete details about Capital Hoedown Showdown can be found on OurStage.com and CaptialHoedown.net.

Taylor Swift Donates $4 Million to Country Music Hall Of Fame

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has taught a generation of kids to appreciate country music over the last five years. Now, she’s donating $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to make sure that education continues.

The gift is the largest given to the museum by an artist and is the second largest from an individual, officials said. It will fund the Taylor Swift Education Center, an exhibit and classroom space scheduled to open in 2014.

“In terms of what it will allow us to do, we do education very well now,” museum director Kyle Young said. “It will allow us to do what we do better, serve more people, develop new programs and I’m happy to say that as we talked through this opportunity with Taylor, she very much wants to be involved in an advisory capacity in what we do. Is there a better person out there who’s in touch with a young audience? I think not. I was joking we should be paying her to do that. I was only joking.”

The new education center is part of the museum’s $75 million “Working on a Building” expansion project that will increase the space more than 200,000 square feet to 350,000. The expansion is part of the new convention center project in downtown Nashville and will include a new concert theater, more room for exhibits and archives, and a shared entrance with a new hotel.

Swift’s education center will have its own exterior entrance and is 7,500 square feet-plus spread over two stories. It will include three classrooms and exhibit space and will allow the museum to add to its youth education programs. The new space will house interactive activities such as a musical petting zoo and a “wet” classroom space to make concert posters and other art projects. The expansion also would allow the museum to start new programs and workshops and for teens and senior citizens as well as continuing workshops.

Taylor has a long history with the museum. One of her first public performances was on the building’s plaza. She signed her record contract there. And she has donated her time to the museum’s “All For The Hall” fundraisers.

Taylor, Brad, Kenny, & Toby All Make Forbes List of Most Powerful Celebs

Taylor Swift

Forbes has released it’s newest list of The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities, and some country names made the cut. After No. 1 Jennifer Lopez and No. 2 Oprah; Taylor Swift takes the 11th spot with a small fortune of $57 Million. Also making the cut is Toby Keith at No. 49 with $55 Million, Kenny Chesney at No. 53 with $44 Million, and Brad Paisley at No. 68 with $32 Million.

I honestly don’t know how people can survive off so little money. I mean, Oprah only brought home $165 Million.

Taylor Swift to the Rescue…Again

Taylor Swift

When it comes to taking care of her fans, I’m not sure anyone does it better than Taylor Swift. From prom date requests from ill fans to funny video antics, Taylor pays attention. Well, to no surprise Taylor is at it again.

Last September, a mother and daughter Summer, ventured out to Taylor’s Sacramento Speak Now tour stop for a night of girls fun. Unfortunately, a drunk driver stopped them in their tracks, and put them on a very long path to recovery.

I could see him passed out at the wheel, coming closer and hitting us,” said Summer. “It was really scary.”

Officer Lowry was impressed by Summer’s strength through the ordeal, and her inability to stop smiling. He decided to try to contact Taylor which proved to be harder than he thought. So, he reached out to CBS 13 (Taylor’s lucky no….coincidence, I don’t think so). The news station used their powers to help out.

Taylor people contacted them and are sending Summer and her mother to the next Sacramento show along with some swag.

You can see a video here.
