“Let Us In” Nashville: Welcomed with Open Arms

Let Us In Nashville

Let Us In” Nashville: A Tribute to Linda McCartney recently debuted, presented by The Women and Cancer Fund, dedicated to Linda McCartney’s memory and appropriately including 16 of Sir Paul McCartney’s best known hits.  The CD is helping raise awareness, promote prevention, and advance research of cancer in the best way Nashville knows how:  through music.

The 16 tracks feature a mixture of well-known country artists, like Phil Vassar and Ricky Skaggs, as well as some up-and-comers, like Sarah Darling and Cheyenne Kimball.  The variation of artists matches the variation of styles that naturally come from mixing an older genre of ‘pop’ songs with modern country singers.  It would seem that each song was perfectly matched to an artist or group based on their style, so that one might think that song came from that artist’s modern album, like Steel Magnolia’s version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” or SHeDAISY’s take on “With a Little Luck”.

Not only do the artists’ styles vary, but the tempos and themes of the songs do as well.  Some of the tracks, like Timothy B. Schmit’s “Every Night” and Juliana Cole’s ‘Bluebird’, could be considered easy listening (of course, with a country twist), whereas Blue Sky Riders’ ‘Junk’ has a folky feel, and Vassar’s rendition of ‘Lady Madonna’ is jazzy.  However, the arrangement of the songs is excellent, saving some of the more well-known or up-tempo songs for the end, including ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and Chuck Wicks’ rock-inspired version of ‘No More Lonely Nights’.

For older listeners, take a trip down memory lane while appreciating some of Nashville’s fresh faces; for younger listeners, take a second to reflect on the tunes of Paul McCartney, an inspiration for many modern artists.  Pick up your own copy and support the Women and Cancer Fund at amazon.com or on iTunes, or find out what else you can do at http://thewomenandcancerfund.org/.

Amanda Wile is originally from Pennsylvania, but moved to Nashville in 2005 to attend Vanderbilt and to follow her love for music.

Steel Magnolia and Big Machine Part Ways….But Have Meghan and Josh Also Parted Ways?

Steel Magnolia

It’s been a tough few months for Steel Magnolia. Josh Scott Jones was forced to pull out of the Reba tour in September and entered rehab. While Meghan Linsey continued on with James Otto filling in.

Since then we have heard rumors that Mehan and Josh were on the outs and no longer living together.   A source has pointed out to CMTT that if you follow the pair on Twitter the signs point to a personal break up.

Since Josh got out of rehab, he and Meghan have been encouraging fans to follow their individual Twitter accounts. Josh tweeted that his roommate’s yappy dog was driving him crazy. Roommate? I thought him and Meg were engaged and living together? And you know how James Otto filled in for Josh on the Reba tour? Well, Meghan tweeted that she was heading into the recording studio with James!

Although there is no confirmation of the breakup The Boot is reporting that their March 24 Steel Magnolia show at Greeneville, Tennessee’s Niswonger Performing Arts Center has been canceled, with the venue’s director claiming a breakup is to blame.

“It is our understanding that the duo is no longer performing together,” reports NPAC Executive Director Darrell Bryan. “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our patrons.”

The Boot has also confirmed Steel Magnolia are no longer with their label Big Machine Records.  Were sorry to hear about all of this Steel Magnolia made great music together!
