Randy Travis Celebrates 25 Years with Tour Across North America

Randy Travis

Randy Travis, seven-time Grammy award winner and country music superstar, is gearing up to launch his 2012 concert tour in celebration of his silver anniversary with a kick-off performance on February 10th in Grand Ronde, Oregon at Spirit Mountain Casino with additional shows spanning the U.S. and Canada. Known as one of the music industry’s top-selling and most renowned artists, Travis is announcing, at this time, more than 30 cities with early stops to include Boise, Denver, Fort Worth and many others, plus Calgary. Fans can expect several more shows to be added to this year’s performance schedule.

In June 2011, the Grand Ole Opry member marked the official beginning of his 25th year in the industry with the Warner Bros. Records release of the Anniversary Celebration album. Among the musical masterpieces on the 17-track CD are a combination of originals and Travis favorites such as More Life, Road to Surrender, He Walked on Water and Forever and Ever, Amen. It features a powerful lineup of guest artists, including Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Kris Kristofferson, Carrie Underwood, George Jones, Zac Brown Band, Lorrie Morgan, Jamey Johnson and more. In May 2011, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® released the 11-track CD, Randy Travis, which benefitted the national Wounded Warriors Project.

A chart-topping icon with multi-platinum albums and more than 40 appearances in television and film, Randy Travis has maintained a sense of integrity that has touched and inspired many throughout his stellar career. When reflecting on milestones of his quarter-century in the music business, Travis says, “I’m surprised at how fast the first 25 years have gone by. It feels like only five.” As for the upcoming tour, “there’s no better feeling than being on stage and the connection with a live audience.”

NOW Franchise Releases “NOW That’s What I Call Country Ballads”

EMI MUSIC NOW COUNTRY BALLADS

Even after 15 years, the ever-popular NOW records are still going strong, despite a decline in record sales after the emergence of iTunes. The famed NOW franchise is back with a new release, NOW That’s What I Call Country Ballads, featuring 18 monster ballads from hit-makers such as Chris Young and Kenny Chesney to Shania Twain and George Strait.

This is definitely a modern-day collection of country ballads, so if you’re expecting to find “He Stopped Loving Her Today” or “The Dance” on this record, you might be disappointed. Instead, you’ll find Sara Evans’ rendition of Edwin McCain’s “I Could Not Ask For More,” Martina McBride’s latest tear-jerker, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” Dierks Bentley’s risque “Come a Little Closer,” and Carrie Underwood’s take on the famous Randy Travis classic, “I Told You So.”

This album is definitely aimed towards a younger audience with songs from crossover artists like Taylor Swift, The Band Perry, and Lady Antebellum, all of whom have had just as much success on pop radio as they have in the country genre. The record also features former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker’s debut single as a country artist, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” which I still say is his strongest single to date.

If you’re not high-tech with all the latest MP3s and gadgets, this would be a great record to buy if you want some of the greatest country ballads released in the last 10 years or so. Or, you could just turn on your radio – I hear these songs multiple times a day, so it’s nothing new or out of the ordinary. But, like I said, it’s a good record to have on hand in the car if you want some good country slow songs. The NOW records are available wherever records are sold, including online via iTunes and Amazon.

Don’t forget to enter for your chance to win a copy of NOW That’s What I Call Country Ballads from CMTT.  CLICK HERE to enter.  Hurry!  Contest ends Thursday , February 2nd.

Randy Travis Celebrates Silver Anniversary with a New Direction

Randy Travis

Randy Travis is emphasizing the ‘new’ in the New Year unfolding.

Under a just announced new management team, the career reins of the multi-platinum awarded Randy Travis, who ranks as one of country music’s top-selling artists of all time, are being guided by Ken Levitan, of Vector Management, and Jeff Davis, of SUM Management. Levitan is the high-profile management force behind some of the top names in the industry, as diverse as Hank Williams, Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Fray, Trace Adkins, Emmylou Harris, and Kings of Leon, to mention just a few.

Levitan is creatively aligning with Davis, whose working association with Travis spans over 24 years, to form a major affiliate for development of Travis’ ongoing successful career interests. Levitan’s and Davis’ new direction for Travis will continue to be supported by CAA, where Marc Dennis acts as responsible agent for scheduling Travis’ bookings and live performances.

2011 marked the official beginning of Randy’s 25th year in the industry, with the Warner Bros. Records release of his “Anniversary Celebration” CD on June 7 that gives a panoramic view of what a quarter century of iconic success in country music looks like, and sounds like. 1986 ignited the-then 27 year old artist’s career and reached mass market heights, with the single release of his breakthrough smash, “On The Other Hand”. The single pinnacled to become the first of 18 #1 hits for Travis.

“Storms of Life”, the debut album that followed, reached triple platinum, laying the foundation for the 20+ million lifetime sales of Travis’ incredible music career. In the midst of becoming a humble phenomena, Travis is credited with being the creative cornerstone of the ‘new traditionalist’ movement that emerged from his influence—a late 80’s, early 90’s wave that swept in a flood of new artists influenced by Travis such as Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley.

In addition to guest tracks from the aforementioned ‘new artists’ he influenced, the star-studded cast of collaborators, on “Anniversary Celebration”, included a virtual who’s who of Nashville’s current hit-makers and legends. In May 2011, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store released their own 11-track tribute to Travis, with a much-anticipated “Greatest Hits” package, which benefitted the national Wounded Warriors Project.
In the wings of 2012, there will be an immediate and aggressive emphasis placed on the visibility of Travis across multiple media formats. Announcements of several major new career initiatives will be forthcoming from Levitan and Davis.

The Roys Join Ronnie Milsap, Randy Travis and more for PBS Special

The Roys, recently taped a PBS Special celebrating the music of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Lee and Elaine Roy joined Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap and numerous other stars for the event, which raised the rafters of the Loveless Barn outside of Nashville last week. Check out great behind-the-scenes footage and hear the music of Charles “Pa” Ingalls at MTSU Helps Revive Great Old American Music with “Pa’s Fiddle” Project.

The PBS Special, “Pa’s Fiddle: America’s Music,” is the brain-child of Dr. Dale Cockrell, director of MTSU’s Center for Popular Music and scholar of the songs embedded in the “Little House on the Prairie” books. He was joined by MTSU professors and students who worked behind the scenes to capture video for the documentary, titled “Inside Pa’s Fiddle.”

MTSU is playing a key role in keeping the old-time fiddle music alive for future generations. Some of the more popular songs were featured in a recorded PBS pledge-drive special that will begin a two-year broadcast run in June.
