Jewel Partners with Child Hunger Ends Here

ConAgra Foods is kicking off the third year of its nationally-recognized Child Hunger Ends Here campaign with an original song and exclusive video content from platinum recording artists Jewel, Owl City, and Jay Sean.

These efforts will work to meet its overall goal of donating five million meals this school year – which complements the ConAgra Foods Foundation’s $10 million, 5-year commitment – to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

Co-written by industry-leading songwriters Hunter Hayes, Luke Laird and Barry Dean, the original song, “Here’s Hope,” leverages the power of music to inspire action, touch hearts and raise awareness for the issue, while motivating consumers to learn how they can help end child hunger in the United States.

Right now you can visit www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com to download original versions of the song recorded by Jewel, Owl City and Jay Sean, and enjoy exclusive content from each artist while supporting the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.

“More than one in five children in the United States doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from, and for nearly two decades, ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation have been powerful advocates for those children,” said Gary Rodkin, CEO of ConAgra Foods. “It is through our continued collaboration with Feeding America and our unwavering commitment, that we have been able to make progress in this fight. Now, with these talented performers, we hope to have an even bigger impact and encourage more consumers to join us.”

To participate, consumers can purchase specially marked packages of select ConAgra Foods brands including Banquet, Chef Boyardee, Healthy Choice, Hunt’s, Marie Callender’s, Manwich, Orville Redenbacher’s, Peter Pan and Snack Pack, then visit www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com to enter the eight-digit code found on specially marked packages. For each code entered, the equivalent of one meal* will be donated to Feeding America. Codes can be redeemed through August 2012.
In return for entering a code from specially marked packages, consumers can download their favorite version of “Here’s Hope” from Jewel, Owl City and Jay Sean. Exclusive interviews, messages and behind-the-scenes videos by each artist will also be available during the program on www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com. Consumers will also be able to submit their zip code to enter their local Feeding America food bank into a competition to receive an 80,000-meal donation (ten food banks will receive based on the total number of zip codes entered) courtesy of ConAgra Foods.

“As a homeless teen, I experienced the epidemic of hunger first-hand. Now, as a new mother, it breaks my heart to know that children suffer from this every day,” said Jewel. “I’m honored and humbled to be able to help those in need through the Child Hunger Ends Here program and say to our friends and neighbors struggling with hunger, ‘Here’s hope.’”

Miranda Lambert & Jewel Added to ‘The Voice’

The Voice has added several other “advisors” to Season 2. Joining Kelly Clarkson will be Lionel Richie, Miranda Lambert, Jewel, Alanis Morissette, Babyface, Ne-Yo and Robin Thicke. I can only assume Miranda will be coaching her hubby, Blake Shelton‘s, team.

The Voice premiers after the Super Bowl.

Waylon Jennings Tribute Album Volume II Includes Dierks Bentley, Justin Moore, Hank Williams Jr. and More!

Waylon

Today, Average Joes Entertainment, in conjunction with Scatter Records, announced the official release date for WAYLON – The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Volume II. The album will be available for pre-sale purchase digitally on January 24, 2012, with availability at retail starting on February 7, 2012.

The eleven-track album, and the second of a three volume series dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings, features country music artists performing the hit songs that made Jennings a household name. WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume II boasts a solid lineup of artists each of who were heavily influenced by Jennings’ legacy. The lineup for WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume II includes Dierks Bentley, Justin Moore, Hank Williams Jr., Jessi Colter, Montgomery Gentry, Jewel, Jack Ingram, Colt Ford, Josh Thompson, Pat Green and Wyatt McCubbin.

“I feel like this project could very likely break another sound barrier,” says Jessi Colter. “Waylon was so original. For his songs to be sang by other people and to take me somewhere else is not an easy task.”

Recording for the three volume series started over three-and-a-half years ago, and has been a labor of love for Jennings’ widow Jessi Colter; son Shooter Jennings; and guitarist Reggie Young. They, along with producer Witt Stewart, have assembled a star-studded roster of artists to pay tribute to Jennings and highlight his undeniable musical and cultural influence.

Colter adds, “I’ve been pleasantly surprised of the fact that the people involved chose to make the songs their own. They add something to it and to me that’s what makes it interesting. They made it their own because they could never walk in Waylon’s tracks. They’d be stepping in holes.”

Waylon Jennings is recognized as one of the key players of country music’s ‘outlaw’ movement. Jennings was in good company with fellow artists of his time including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. They were the musical talents who defined a new genre of music with rebellious attitudes, which, in turn, translated over into their music. The ‘outlaw’ rebellion denied Nashville’s straight-laced model and brought the era of whiskey-drinkin,’ bar brawlin,’ woman lovin,’ country music to the forefront.  WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume I, was released last year and is available for purchase now.

Jewel’s Family Gets a Reality Show on Discovery Channel – Starts TONIGHT!

We have more details about the Kilchers reality show.

Don’t expect to see Jewel in it. But members of her family will be starring in a reality TV show. The Anchorage Daily News reports there will be a new show which focuses on Jewel’s dad, Atz Kilcher. The show starring the singer’s father is titled “Alaska: The Last Frontier” and the first episode airs tonight on the Discover Channel. Three generations Kilchers live on a 600-acre homestead in Homer — a fishing community about 125 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. The show will focus on the family’s lifestyle with the first episodes showing how they get ready for the state’s long, cold winters.
