Waylon Jennings Tribute Album Volume II Includes Dierks Bentley, Justin Moore, Hank Williams Jr. and More!

Waylon

Today, Average Joes Entertainment, in conjunction with Scatter Records, announced the official release date for WAYLON – The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Volume II. The album will be available for pre-sale purchase digitally on January 24, 2012, with availability at retail starting on February 7, 2012.

The eleven-track album, and the second of a three volume series dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings, features country music artists performing the hit songs that made Jennings a household name. WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume II boasts a solid lineup of artists each of who were heavily influenced by Jennings’ legacy. The lineup for WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume II includes Dierks Bentley, Justin Moore, Hank Williams Jr., Jessi Colter, Montgomery Gentry, Jewel, Jack Ingram, Colt Ford, Josh Thompson, Pat Green and Wyatt McCubbin.

“I feel like this project could very likely break another sound barrier,” says Jessi Colter. “Waylon was so original. For his songs to be sang by other people and to take me somewhere else is not an easy task.”

Recording for the three volume series started over three-and-a-half years ago, and has been a labor of love for Jennings’ widow Jessi Colter; son Shooter Jennings; and guitarist Reggie Young. They, along with producer Witt Stewart, have assembled a star-studded roster of artists to pay tribute to Jennings and highlight his undeniable musical and cultural influence.

Colter adds, “I’ve been pleasantly surprised of the fact that the people involved chose to make the songs their own. They add something to it and to me that’s what makes it interesting. They made it their own because they could never walk in Waylon’s tracks. They’d be stepping in holes.”

Waylon Jennings is recognized as one of the key players of country music’s ‘outlaw’ movement. Jennings was in good company with fellow artists of his time including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. They were the musical talents who defined a new genre of music with rebellious attitudes, which, in turn, translated over into their music. The ‘outlaw’ rebellion denied Nashville’s straight-laced model and brought the era of whiskey-drinkin,’ bar brawlin,’ woman lovin,’ country music to the forefront.  WAYLON – The Music Inside, Volume I, was released last year and is available for purchase now.

Hank Williams Jr. Raises $75,000 for Country Music Hall of Fame

Hank Williams Jr

Hank Williams Jr. capped the four-year run of the exhibition Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy just as he opened it: with a powerful solo acoustic performance spiked with personal memories. The sold-out December 6th concert, a benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, raised $75,000.

Williams also announced that many of the artifacts he loaned to the exhibit would stay in the museum and its archives. “I’m going to work with them and leave quite a few of these items here—where they should be,” he said.

Highlights of the 90-minute show included Williams’ hits “A Country Boy Can Survive,” “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound” and “The Blues Man” (upon which he was joined by his youngest son, Sam), as well as several tunes from a forthcoming new CD, scheduled for a March 2012 release. The concert also included a generous helping of classic material by his father and his heroes, most notably Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.

Special guests in the audience included Jessi Colter, her son Shooter Jennings and Jamey Johnson. The event also became a family celebration, with Williams’ wife, Mary Jane, his daughters Hilary and Holly and son Sam in the audience.

After the concert, Williams greeted audience members and posed for pictures in the Ford Theater. A reception followed in the Hall of Fame Rotunda, and fans received a signed poster commemorating the exhibit as they left the building.

Family Tradition opened on March 28, 2008. Originally scheduled to close on December 31, 2009, the exhibit—which offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of a great American musical dynasty—became the most popular and acclaimed exhibition in the museum’s history and was extended through December 31st.

Hank Williams Jr. ‘Keep the Change’ Logs Nearly 150,000 Downloads in 24 Hours

Hank Williams Jr released a new single “Keep The Change” to his fans yesterday, and close to 150,000 have responded in just over 24 hours. Fans, friends and media are all downloading the free song, which has received placement on such notable websites as Hannity.com, Alan.com (Alan Colmes), KidRock.com, countless radio stations and many others.

“Artists have launched tens of thousands of email-for-download campaigns but Hank’s ‘Keep The Change’ is the fastest growing campaign we’ve ever seen!” – Ian C. Rogers, CEO, Topspin.

Hank discussed the popularity of the song on ABC’s The View today, where he was questioned about last week’s now-famous controversial remarks from Fox & Friends. Those comments resulted in ESPN pulling his musical intro to their Monday’s football telecasts. Left-leaning hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar of The View, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, and Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh from the other side of the political landscape all came to his defense last Monday.

“Hank has always been provocative … and said provocative things”, said Whoopi. “What kind of standards are we holding folks to when we say ‘Oh no, you can’t say…’ We can’t say ‘listen man, that’s not a good thing to do’ so instead we pull… Is that the right thing?” “Those among us who are without sin, cast the first stone,” Goldberg said.

“He was making a comparison…” said The View co-host Joy Behar.

“I think every American has the right to voice their opinion,” said co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

“I don’t think you should be kicked off tv just for expressing yourself,” said Bill Maher on his HBO weekly show Real Time, in reference to Hank’s comments last week. “I am defending this guy.”

“What? They pulled the song?? We count on him to gauge our nation’s football readiness. If anything just give ‘em a slap on the wrist,” said comedian Jon Stewart. “By the way ESPN… you’re shocked? By Bocephus’ comments? You know, he’s been at ESPN for twenty years – have you met him? … It’s Bocephus, man. He’s got a song about how things would be better if the south had won. The guy fell 442 feet off a mountain, cracked open his skull so bad he had to hold in his own brain and survive… Don’t act all ‘oh, my goodness’ when he says something down-home and gritty. That’s what he’s there for.”

Williams decided early last week to end the relationship with ESPN, making the trip to New York today to discuss his reasoning and the topic with various national outlets.

“Mickey is a mean mouse, and he has stepped in to ‘that pile’…” Hank said today, in reference to a quote from President Harry Truman, when asked about the fallout during today’s segment on The View.

“America is a country of choices – we have choices and options – and I have choices and options.” Hank said. When asked if he would stay out of future political discussions, he responded “How am I gonna do that? We want you to be President, we want you to be Senator … I ain’t got time – I wanna go fishing!”

Hank is scheduled to appear tonight on Hannity (Fox News Channel) at 9pm ET / 8pm CT and will also appear on tomorrow’s Joy Behar Show (HLN) 10pm ET.
