Save A Horse, Ride A Parachute! Big Kenny Photo of the Day

Big Kenny made quite the entrance as he and his skydiving partner parachute into the Nashville Xtreme Muzik The Tour date.

Proceeds from Nashville’s Xtreme Muzik The Tour and Operation Finally Home will fund construction of a new home for Air Force veteran Shaun Meadows, who lost his legs in 2008 during a combat reconnaissance patrol in Afghanistan. Co-headliners Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson and local news anchor Jonathan Martin surprised the Meadows family mid-concert and announced that Goodall Homes and LP Building Products will start building the house in November. An Air Force Color Guard and a Jimi Hendrix-style National Anthem welcomed the family to the stage. Follow the build and learn more at FinallyHomeTN.com.

Gretchen Wilson’s Uncle Passes Away

Vernon Heuer, better known as country star Gretchen Wilson‘s colorful and beloved Uncle Vern, suffered a massive heart attack and passed away in his hometown of Greenville, Illinois early Friday morning. He was 44 years old.

“This obviously caught all of us by surprise, and we are just devastated,” said Gretchen. “I have a hole in my heart and a void in my life that will never be filled. Vern will not only be missed by my family and me but by everyone who was ever blessed to hear his laugh and see his smiling face. I will miss you, Vern.”

Country music fans first met Uncle Vern when he appeared in Gretchen’s debut music video “Redneck Woman” in early 2004. He gained national notoriety when he gave the late Ed Bradley a tour of the former Big O’s nightclub in Pocahontas, Illinois during a “60 Minutes” profile of Gretchen. Vern moved to his current home in Lebanon, Tennessee in 2005. He could regularly be spotted with Gretchen at television appearances and concert dates.

Vern was engaged to be married this fall. He is survived by his sisters Christine and Vickie, his nephew and Gretchen’s brother Josh, and his beloved dogs Pete and Pete, Jr.

Gretchen is currently on tour with Big & Rich on their co-headline Xtreme Muzik The Tour and received news of Vern’s passing while traveling from Quebec to their date in Laughlin, Nevada last night. During the performance, she broke the news to the crowd and then toasted Vern with his drink of choice, Jim Beam. She will perform tonight in Tucson and tomorrow in Pomona, CA. Due to funeral arrangements early next week, she will miss Tuesday’s date in Salt Lake City, Utah and rejoin the tour in Woodlake, CA on September 15th.
