Dierks Bentley recently sat down with USA Today to discuss his album, Home, which hits stores on Tuesday, February 7th. Dierks first heard the tune “Diamonds Make Babies” when his pal Jim Beavers played it at a songwriters night in Nashville.
“Jim and I go way back; we always have little surprises for each other,” says Bentley, who wound up cutting the song for his new album, Home, out Tuesday. “He pulled that song out of his pocket and played it. It blew me away. The whole place was on the floor, dying laughing. He looked over at me, and I was like, ‘Uh, I’ll put that one on hold, please?’ “
It hit close to home for Dierks because at the time he heard it, he and his wife Cassidy were expecting their second child.
It’s a cautionary tale, in a good way, to all those fans out there thinking about taking that next step,” Bentley says. “It’s a powerful thing, the ring.”

Last night Dierks Bentley kicked-off the release of his new album, Home, at the home of Country Music…The legendary Ryman Auditorium. It was truly a special show, and the sold-out crowd was privy to, what I’m sure were once-in-a-lifetime performances.
Kicking-off the night was newcomer country, rock, soul, and everything in between artist Will Hoge. Appearances gave nothing away when Will took the stage in a worn-out western shirt hanging open over a white t-shirt. Throughout his set will played acoustic and electric guitar as well as piano as he belted out soulful songs that could fit into any genre of music. The real show-stopper brought the house down with an amazing version of his current single “When I Get My Wings.” If you haven’t taken a listen to Will Hoge, do you yourself a favor and wait no longer.
The anticipation for Dierks’ set grew with every minute, and when the time came the crowd went nuts…Particularly the women who swooned over his brand-spankin-new shorter hair. Since this show was to celebrate the release of Home, we were under the impression we may only be hearing new tunes. However, we were pleasantly surprised to be treated to a full-blown Dierks Bentley concert full of hits which included “Sideways,” “How Am I Doin,” “Come A Little Closer,” “Every Mile a Memory,” “Feel That Fire,” and “What Was I Thinkin.”
Sprinkled in between hit songs, Dierks gave fans as much new music as possible. Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild joined Dierks on stage to perform “When You Gonna Come Around.” Dierks also performed “Tip It On Back,” “5-1-5-0,” and “Heart of a Lonely Girl.”
After a surprise acoustic set of some Up On the Ridge tunes featuring the Del McCoury Band, the real show stopper came in a pint-sized package when little Evie Bentley, Dierks’ tiny tot joined daddy on stage for a tear-jerking performance of “Thinking of You.” I’m not sure there were many dry eyes in the house.
The night ended with a heartfelt version of “Home.” After all, Dierks has made his home in Nashville, and I’m not sure he’s ever felt more at home than he did last night with thousands of his closest friends playing in a room he only once dreamed of performing in.

Dierks Bentley prepares for the release of his sixth studio album Home with fan events, television appearances and exclusive album release shows in support of the disc, out Tuesday, February 7th. Bentley will officially kick off release week at the ‘home’ of country music, the historic Ryman Auditorium, with a special album release show today. Tonight’s sold out performance will also mark the last concert played on the current stage of the landmark venue before it undergoes renovation.
Bentley will start on the east coast and move west over the course of the week visiting fans in Boston on February 4th, Baltimore on February 5th, New York on February 8th, Chicago on February 9th, Denver on February 10th and Phoenix on February 11th. Throughout the cross-country trip, he’ll make time to appear and perform on NBC’s Today on both February 6th and 7th and The Late Show with David Letterman on February 8th, where he’ll follow the TV taping with a full set for their popular webcast program Live On Letterman from the famous Ed Sullivan Theatre. The week will cap off in Los Angeles with the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards on February 12th and a performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on February 15th.
“We worked so hard and spent so much time writing and recording this album,” said Bentley. “Now we get to criss cross the country and get it in the fans’ hands…I’m sure I’ll be running on adrenaline the entire time. I’ve got a few surprises planned along the way too. Kicking it all off tonight at The Ryman…there’s nothing better than that!”
Bentley’s versatility as a writer shines on the new disc that has already produced the rowdy No. one hit “Am I The Only One.” He penned the good-time chart topper, as well as the disc’s spiritual anchor and title track “Home,” which caught early attention from National Public Radio critics for the authenticity of its lyrics. Last week, it was nominated for ACM’s coveted “Song of the Year” award. The new project also features special guests including Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and bluegrass icons Sam Bush and Tim O’Brien. Over his diverse career, the CMA winner has sold over five million albums, scored eight No. one hits at country radio and collected 10 GRAMMY nominations.
Following release week, Bentley will jet straight to the first show of his 2012 Country & Cold Cans Tour on February 15th in Vancouver, BC Canada. For a list of upcoming appearances and tour dates in Canada, Australia and the US, visit www.dierks.com.
Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley have been added as presenters for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, and The Band Perry will all perform.
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, February 12th at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
