Dexter Roberts – New & Noteworthy

Dexter Roberts

A self-taught musician who plays guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and keys, music has been a part of Dexter Roberts’ life since he was a toddler. At age 5, his grandparents bought Roberts his first instrument – a red plastic guitar. He instantly fell in love with the instrument and became determined to learn the craft. Roberts grew up working the family farm in Fayette, Ala. where he would spend his days and nights perfecting his craft and playing sold-out shows for the cattle he tended while working the land.

When Roberts learned that the American Idol bus was making a stop in nearby Tuscaloosa, Ala., he stood in line with thousands of hopefuls and became 1 of only 5 artists to make it to the next round. He caught the attention of Country heavyweight, Keith Urban, and finished American Idol: Season 13 in 7th place overall. Roberts is now making his debut with his new single, “Dream About Me,” which hit radio and stores March 12. Now signed to First Launch Records, Roberts is currently working on his debut EP with Grammy-nominated writer/producer Erik Nelson.

Meet New & Noteworthy Artist Dexter Roberts:

Current Single / Project:  “Dream About Me” is Dexter’s current single and was released to Country radio and iTunes on Thursday, March 12. His EP, Dream About Me, will be available on iTunes March 24.

Musical Influences:  Johnny Cash, Brooks & Dunn and Toby Keith have all influenced Dexter’s sound. From a performance standpoint, Dexter is influenced by Luke Bryan and Brett Eldredge, and admires the way those artists get the crowd going and can tell a story with their performance.

Personal Influences:  Dexter’s Grandma bought him his first guitar at the age of 5 and Dexter started singing at church with her every Sunday. Dexter’s Grandpa led worship in their church, and Dexter has always looked up to him and strives to make him proud every day.

Why You Should Be Listening:  As Keith Urban said during Dexter’s time on “American Idol: Season 13,” Dexter is “the real deal.” His music is relatable and influenced by real-life experiences, and he’s written with songwriting legends, including Don Goodman, who said of the young talent, “It’s a thrill to work with such an exciting young artist with a great voice and tremendous writing instincts.”

Restless Road – New & Noteworthy

Photography by: Jake Harsh

Talented. Charming. Unstoppable. When America first became acquainted with the Country music trio Restless Road while watching Season 3 of The X Factor USA, these are just some of the words that immediately came to their minds. The breakout act didn’t just leave a lasting impression on audiences, but also mesmerized the show’s judges including Simon Cowell and Kelly Rowland. “X Factor” of course refers to that undefinable and innate “something” that a star simply embodies. And fans and tastemakers recognize that Restless Road has got it times three.

Zach Beeken (19), Andrew Scholz (20) and Jared Keim (21) each bring their own “All- American” experience and pronounced musical techniques to Restless Road.

One of Restless Road’s biggest accomplishments to date is landing at #1 on the iTunes Country Chart. With a Country spin, the group covered one of the most popular songs of 2013, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”, and quickly realized that they had a growing and passionate fan base to satisfy. One of these fans was legendary music manager Johnny Wright. Wright has helped launch Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and Jonas Brothers (to name a few), so he thoroughly understands what it takes for a group of guys to be successful and began working with Restless Road in 2014. With Wright’s ear for talent and Restless Road’s capability, this Country “man band” (as they refer to themselves) is ready to show the world what they can do. Andrew sums it up well by explaining,

“We’re three guys who have something to prove. We love what we’re doing, we’re real and we’re going to carve out a place in music history for ourselves.”

Haley & Michaels – New & Noteworthy

Haley and Michaels

They grew up only 3 miles apart in Northern California — though Shannon Haley and Ryan Michaels didn’t know each other until well after each had embarked on their own musical career in Nashville. Shortly after meeting they began singing and writing together and discovered an electric musical connection. With two unique voices coming together as one complete sound, there is no lead singer in this duo. Their vocal blend and harmonies carry their music, each song showing two halves of a conversation that unfolds over time.

Over the past couple of years, the duo — now Haley & Michaels — have quietly gone about building their music career inch by inch and piece by piece.

Now, in 2014, things aren’t nearly as quiet as before. “Just Another Love Song”, their debut single, premiered on Sirius XM The Highway and has sold 25,000 copies worldwide. The video, directed by CMA Video Of The Year award winning Shane Drake, climbed to the top of the CMT Pure playlist, and entered into the top 10 on the GAC Countdown and spent 20 straight weeks on the chart.

Their newly released self-titled debut EP, produced by CMA Award Winning producers Kyle Jacobs and Matt McClure, captures the signature vocal arrangements, the passion, and the artistic depth of the duo.

Current Single / Project: “Just Another Love Song”/New self titled EP “Haley & Michaels” released October 21st

Musical Influences: Our biggest common influences are Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, and James Taylor. Separately, if we had to choose: Sheryl Crow (Shannon), Bon Jovi (Ryan).

Personal Influences:  Joe Montana, Little Big Town, our families

Music Sounds Like: Country/Rock. We recently received the biggest compliment ever when we were compared on air to Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum.

Why You Should Be Listening: Listening through the EP, you’ll catch a special guest in the middle of one of our songs, you’ll hear our take on an 80’s cover song, you’ll find different conversation that demonstrate the male/female perspectives on love, a song we wrote with The Warren Brothers, and you’ll even hear a waltz! We have been working on this EP with our amazing producers Kyle Jacobs and Matt McClure for over a year…thank you so much for listening!
