Andy Griggs has had a successful music career. Arriving in Nashville with guitar in hand in 1994, Andy quickly made a name for himself on the country scene. After his debut single “You Won’t Ever Be Lonely” on RCA was certified Gold in 2000, he quickly racked up ten top 10 hits.
Andy maximizes his life to the fullest. He embraces everything he does with passion that all can bear witness too. He is talented, witty and knocks ‘em dead.
CMTT is excited to have Andy as our Celebrity Tattle Tale for the month of February. In his first blog post he is getting us caught up on what he has been doing and his plans for 2011.
Hi ya’ll,
First off, Happy New Year to you all! I hope 2011 has started off as great for you as it has for me.
Also, thanks to Country Music Tattle Tale for the special recognition this month and for allowing me to tell on myself. Last year was a great building & self-fulfilling year. It’s the first time I went into the studio to cut a new album with myself…no label, no producer, etc. I had a blast. I was me…just me. My goal was to capture something in the studio that said “This is me,” and sounded like my live show. I believe we did just that.
So far, we have 7 cuts. Lucky 7! We did 3 cover songs in my style, at the request of fans who have heard me play them live. What a feeling to cut these legendary songs! I cut Hank Sr.’s “Ramblin’ Man,” (which Hazel Smith has been after me to do for years.) We also cut “Don’t Think Hank Done It That Way,” an old Waylon tune that I loved to hear him perform. It brought back so many memories of the times Waylon & I spent together…I sure do miss “Hoss.” Another cover we did for this album is “Lady Down on Love” an Alabama hit that I have done many times. I had the privilege to record this version with two of my favorite singers, Jeff Bates and Daryl Singletary.
The new single “Can I Get An Amen” is garnering a lot of support. I have to admit the first time I played the single live, before it was released, I didn’t know how the crowd would react. I was totally taken back when they screamed so loud and long it was hard to start my next song. Bryan White was with me and leaned over and said, “Andy, my friend, you’ve got a hit on your hands.” When I got the call the next day that the Wall Street Journal had written about it, I got this funny feeling in my stomach. By the end of that day, the Washington Wire and the Los Angeles Times had also written about it. It was unreal to have a song that hadn’t even been sent to radio yet, getting that much attention.
We released it to radio in January and we’re seeing continued and growing support. DJs are encouraging fans to call in with their opinions on the song since it talks about freedom and God. And that’s the great thing about America- we can have our own opinion and let everyone know about it! If you haven’t heard the song yet, head on over to www.andygriggs.com and give it a listen.
That’s what I have to catch you up on so far in 2011.
Until next time. . . .
